Spring Rate Selection Guide

Choosing the correct spring rate is critical for achieving optimal ride quality, safety, and component longevity. Your spring rate selection should be based exclusively on your constant accessory load — the combined weight of permanently fitted equipment that your vehicle carries at all times. Common front-end constant loads include bull bars, winches, upgraded batteries, long-range fuel tanks, steel trays, toolboxes, and communications equipment. Occasional loads such as passengers, camping gear, water, or towing should not be factored into your spring rate selection, as oversized springs will result in harsh ride quality, increased wear on bushings and shock absorbers, and potential damage to other suspension components. When ordering, calculate the total weight of your permanently fitted accessories and select the appropriate load rating — our team can assist if you're unsure.

Installation & Setup

Professional installation by a qualified mechanic or experienced 4WD workshop is strongly recommended to ensure correct fitment, safety, and warranty compliance. Leaf spring replacement requires proper lifting equipment, torque specifications, and safety procedures. A full four-wheel alignment is mandatory after installation to restore correct steering geometry, prevent premature tyre wear, and ensure safe handling characteristics. All leaf springs require a 500-kilometre break-in period where spring rates will settle and performance characteristics will stabilise — avoid heavy loads during this period. For vehicles fitted with lift kits exceeding 50mm, consider pairing these springs with upgraded control arms to maintain optimal suspension geometry and CV joint angles.

Why Choose Toughdog?

Toughdog is Australia's leading suspension brand, engineered and tested in the harshest conditions our continent can deliver — from the red dust of the Simpson Desert to the corrugations of the Gibb River Road. Every Toughdog component is backed by comprehensive warranty coverage and decades of proven performance in commercial, touring, and recreational applications. Trusted by mine site operators, emergency services, and serious outback tourers, Toughdog delivers the perfect balance of comfort, capability, and long-term reliability. Explore the complete Toughdog suspension range to build your ultimate 4WD setup.

Who Is This For?

These front leaf springs are ideal for 75 Series LandCruiser owners who have fitted heavy-duty front-end accessories and need to restore proper ride height and handling characteristics. Perfect for tradespeople running steel trays and toolboxes, remote area tourers with winches and dual battery systems, or commercial operators requiring consistent payload capacity and durability. If you regularly carry variable loads or tow heavy trailers, consider supplementing your suspension with airbag suspension systems for on-demand load support without compromising unladen ride quality.

All Toughdog suspension components are held in Australian stock for fast dispatch Australia-wide. Our expert team is available to help you choose the right spring rate, answer fitment questions, and recommend complementary components to complete your suspension upgrade. Whether you're building a touring rig, upgrading a workhorse, or restoring a classic 75, we've got you covered. Ready to explore more options? FAQs

Yes, these Toughdog front leaf springs are specifically engineered for Toyota LandCruiser 75 Series vehicles, covering both the original production run (1985-1999) and the re-released models (2016-current). They're compatible with Wagon, Troopcarrier, and Ute body configurations. The springs are designed as direct OE replacements with correct spring eye dimensions, arch profiles, and mounting specifications. If you're unsure about your specific variant or have modified suspension components, our team can verify fitment before you order.

The primary purpose of these leaf springs is to restore correct ride height when heavy front-end accessories are fitted, rather than provide significant lift. Depending on your selected spring rate and current accessory load, you can expect to restore factory ride height or achieve a modest lift of 0-50mm compared to worn factory springs. The actual lift achieved will vary based on your constant accessory weight, selected spring rate, and the condition of your original springs. These springs are designed to work in conjunction with other lift kit components if additional height is required.

This kit includes two complete Toughdog front leaf springs engineered specifically for the 75 Series LandCruiser, featuring multi-leaf construction, heat-treated spring steel, anti-corrosion coating, and OE-equivalent bushings. The springs are supplied as a matched pair to ensure consistent performance side-to-side. Additional hardware such as U-bolts, shackles, pins, and mounting brackets may be required depending on your specific application and whether you're reusing original hardware — please check with your installer. Rear leaf springs, shock absorbers, and other suspension components are sold separately.

While these front leaf springs will improve overall vehicle stability and maintain proper ride height with heavy front accessories fitted, towing capacity is primarily managed by your rear suspension and vehicle chassis ratings. The correct front spring rate selection ensures your front end doesn't sag under the weight of accessories, which indirectly improves towing stability by maintaining proper vehicle stance and weight distribution. For optimal towing performance, we recommend selecting rear springs rated for your towing loads and considering airbag suspension for the rear axle. Always observe your vehicle's maximum towing capacity and GVM ratings regardless of suspension upgrades.

For most 75 Series applications where these springs restore factory ride height or provide minimal lift (under 50mm), factory control arms typically remain within acceptable geometry ranges. However, if you're combining these springs with other lift components to achieve total suspension lift exceeding 50mm, upgraded control arms may be beneficial to maintain optimal CV joint angles, reduce ball joint wear, and improve steering geometry. Our suspension experts can assess your complete setup and recommend whether control arm upgrades are necessary for your specific configuration and intended use.

Yes, a full four-wheel alignment is absolutely mandatory after installing any new leaf springs. Replacing front springs will alter your vehicle's ride height, which directly affects camber, caster, and toe settings — all critical for safe handling, predictable steering response, and even tyre wear. Driving without proper alignment can result in premature tyre wear, poor handling characteristics, and increased stress on steering and suspension components. The alignment should be performed after the springs have been installed, all fasteners torqued to specification, and the vehicle has settled under its typical loaded weight.

Spring rate selection must be based exclusively on your constant accessory load — the combined weight of permanently fitted equipment such as bull bars, winches, long-range tanks, toolboxes, and upgraded bumpers. Calculate the total weight of all front-end accessories that are always on your vehicle, then select the spring rate that matches this constant load range. Do not factor in occasional loads like passengers, camping gear, or towing weights, as selecting too heavy a spring rate will result in harsh ride quality and accelerated wear on other components. Our team can help you calculate your accessory weight and recommend the optimal spring rate for your setup.

Tyre clearance depends on your total suspension lift height, wheel offset, and tyre dimensions rather than springs alone. If these springs are restoring factory ride height on a vehicle with heavy accessories, tyre clearance will remain similar to factory specifications. For increased tyre clearance, you'll typically need to combine these springs with other lift components such as raised shackles, body lifts, or complete lift kit systems. The 75 Series has relatively generous wheel arch clearances, but fitting significantly larger tyres may also require trimming, modified guards, or suspension geometry corrections. Consult with your installer about maximum tyre sizes for your specific lift configuration.

Toughdog leaf springs are backed by comprehensive manufacturer warranty coverage against defects in materials and workmanship, providing peace of mind for your investment. Warranty terms typically cover structural failures, spring breakage, and manufacturing defects when the product is installed correctly, used within design parameters, and maintained according to specifications. Warranty does not cover damage from accidents, incorrect installation, overloading beyond rated capacity, or normal wear and tear. For specific warranty duration and claim procedures, refer to the documentation included with your springs or contact our team for detailed warranty information applicable to your purchase.

Absolutely — Toughdog leaf springs are engineered to deliver excellent performance across all driving conditions, from daily commuting to remote touring. When correctly matched to your constant accessory load, these springs provide comfortable on-road ride quality, stable highway handling, and confident cornering characteristics while maintaining the load capacity needed for your fitted accessories. The progressive spring rate design ensures the springs aren't harsh when unladen but provide firm support when loaded. Thousands of Australian drivers rely on Toughdog suspension for their daily drivers, work vehicles, and touring rigs because of this versatile performance balance.

Sorted Out the Front End Perfectly

By: Jason C on 11 June 2026
Finally got around to fitting these Toughdog front leaf springs on our 75 Series before our trip up to the High Country and what a difference. The old springs were absolutely flogged and these have brought it back to how it should ride, even with the bull bar and winch up front. Really happy with the quality for the price, and they went in without any dramas at all.

Sorted Out the Old Girl Properly

By: Jason C on 10 June 2026
Been running these Toughdog front leaf springs on my 75 for about six months now, carting tools and equipment around Sydney every day with the occasional trip out west on the weekends. The ride quality is noticeably better than the worn-out originals, and they're handling the constant load without any dramas. Fitment was spot-on and installation was straightforward enough for a weekend job.

Proper Springs for Serious Remote Touring

By: Penny O on 9 June 2026
Been running these Toughdog front leaf springs on my 75 for about 8 months now, including a trip through the Simpson and regular Cape York runs. The ride quality loaded up with long-range tanks, dual batteries and a steel bar is miles better than the old springs, and they're holding their rate perfectly even after some serious corrugations. Fitment was spot-on with all the bushings and shackles lining up properly, which isn't always a given with aftermarket gear.

Perfect Upgrade for Our Old Troopy

By: Bradley O on 9 June 2026
Fitted these front leaf springs to our '85 Troopy before our last trip down to Wilsons Prom and the difference is night and day. The ride is so much more controlled now, especially with the roof rack and camping gear loaded up, and the kids actually stopped complaining about the bouncing for once. Installation was straightforward enough for a Saturday arvo in the shed, and they seem like they'll handle plenty more family adventures to come.
