Description

Toughdog Rear Foam Cell Shock Absorbers are purpose-built for the Jeep JT Gladiator (2020-ON) and use a nitrogen-charged foam cell cartridge to control fade under heavy load and repeated corrugations. This pair of rear shock absorbers suits vehicles at standard ride height or fitted with up to 2" of rear lift, giving consistent damping whether you're towing a camper trailer or running daily. Check all suspension parts for the Jeep Gladiator using our fitment tool. Dispatched from Australian stock with manufacturer warranty and fitment support from our team.

Spring Rate Selection Guide

These rear shocks are damper-only and suit the Gladiator's factory or Toughdog-upgraded leaf springs, so getting the leaf spring rate right alongside them matters for ride and load control. Work out your constant accessory load — tray or canopy weight, tool boxes, water tank, dual battery tray, and camper trailer tow ball weight — before selecting a leaf spring rate to pair with these shocks. Heavier constant loads generally call for a firmer leaf spring so the shock isn't working against a sagging rear end.

Installation & Setup

Fitment is a bolt-in rear shock swap that an experienced DIY installer can complete with basic hand tools, though we recommend a qualified workshop if you're unfamiliar with leaf-spring axle work. A wheel alignment check is good practice after any suspension work, even a shock-only change, to confirm nothing has shifted during the swap. Allow a 500km settling period for new bushes to seat before final alignment adjustments. If you're planning a rear lift alongside these shocks, pair them with matched leaf springs and consider upgraded control arms up front for corrected front-end geometry.

Why Choose Toughdog?

Toughdog has built its shock absorber range around foam cell and remote-reservoir damping technology developed and tested for Australian conditions, from corrugated outback tracks to wet coastal roads. Every Toughdog shock is backed by a manufacturer warranty, and our team stocks the Gladiator-specific rear pair locally for fast dispatch. Tradespeople and tourers running Gladiators choose Toughdog for consistent damping under real load, not just on smooth bitumen — view the full Toughdog range for matching front shocks and springs.

Who Is This For?

This rear shock pair suits Gladiator owners who tow camper trailers or boats regularly, tradies running a tray or canopy with tools and equipment, and tourers who want fade-resistant damping on corrugated roads. If your Gladiator carries a heavy, variable rear load such as a slide-on camper, also look at airbag suspension to support the load without over-stiffening the ride when unladen.

These Toughdog Rear Foam Cell Shocks are in stock in Australia for fast dispatch, backed by manufacturer warranty and fitment support from our team. Browse our full lift kit range if you're planning a complete Gladiator suspension upgrade alongside these shocks.

FAQs

Yes, this pair of Toughdog Foam Cell shocks is designed specifically for the Jeep JT Gladiator built from 2020 onward, matching the factory rear leaf-spring axle mounts. No extra brackets are needed for a standard-height fit. If your Gladiator already runs a raised suspension, check with our team via the contact page or parts finder to confirm the correct valving.

These are rear shock absorbers, not a lift kit, so they don't raise ride height on their own. They're built to suit Gladiators at standard ride height or those already fitted with up to 2" of rear lift, matching stroke length to that range. For an actual lift, pair these shocks with Toughdog raised leaf springs from our leaf springs range.

You receive 2 x Toughdog Rear Foam Cell Shock Absorbers with mounting bushes pre-fitted and the hardware needed for installation. Front shocks, coil springs, leaf springs and control arms are sold separately. Fitting instructions are included in the box.

Yes, the nitrogen-charged foam cell cartridge is built to resist damping fade under sustained load, which is exactly what a loaded camper trailer or boat trailer puts on the rear axle. Consistent valving helps control axle movement over corrugations while towing. For heavier constant tow-ball weights, consider pairing with a firmer Toughdog leaf spring.

No, the Gladiator's rear axle is leaf-sprung, so there are no rear control arms in the geometry these shocks affect. If you're also lifting the front independent suspension, upgraded front control arms can help correct geometry at height. This rear shock upgrade on its own doesn't require control arm changes.

A shock-only rear swap doesn't change ride height, so alignment settings typically aren't affected. We still recommend a post-fit alignment check as standard practice after any suspension work. If you're combining these shocks with new leaf springs or a front lift, an alignment is mandatory.

This product is shocks only, so spring rate selection applies to the leaf springs you pair them with, sold separately in our leaf springs range. Choose a spring rate based on your constant rear accessory load, such as a canopy, tool boxes or camper trailer tow ball weight. Our team can help match a leaf spring rate to your Gladiator's setup.

Since these shocks don't add lift or ride height on their own, tyre clearance stays the same as factory. If you want to run larger tyres, you'll need a rear lift from raised leaf springs, plus a matching front lift, to gain clearance. Talk to our team about a combined shock and spring package if bigger tyres are the goal.

These shocks are covered by Toughdog's manufacturer warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Full warranty terms are available from our team on request before or after purchase. We're Australian-based and can assist directly with any warranty claim.

Yes, the foam cell damping is tuned to balance daily comfort with load-carrying ability, so it's not a harsh, off-road-only setup. Many Gladiator owners run these shocks as their everyday rear dampers while still towing or carrying gear on weekends. The twin-tube design and quality seals are built for regular daily use, not just occasional touring.
