Description

This Roadsafe adjustable panhard rod relocates the rear axle back under the chassis on a lifted Toyota Hilux 130 Series (1988-1997), correcting the sideways offset that shows up once you run 2" or more of lift. Polyurethane bushings at each pivot point resist wear and perishing better than the factory rubber, while the off-car adjustable thread lets you set the exact axle position without cutting or welding anything. It's the straightforward fix for rear tyre-to-guard rub and off-centre tracking that often follows a lift kit or a set of raised leaf springs. In stock in Australia now, backed by manufacturer warranty and fitment support from our suspension team.

Key Features & Performance Benefits

  • Corrects rear axle offset on Toyota Hilux 130 Series utes lifted 2" or more, re-centring the diff under the chassis
  • Polyurethane bushings at each pivot point resist wear and perishing better than factory rubber
  • Off-car adjustable single-thread design lets you set rod length without cutting or welding
  • Bolts to the factory chassis and axle mounting points — no drilling needed
  • Reduces rear tyre rubbing on the guard or chassis rail caused by an off-centre axle
  • Restores correct rear-end tracking, reducing the wander that comes with an offset axle at highway speed
  • Works alongside upgraded leaf springs or coil springs to keep the rear axle properly located after a lift
  • Suited to tourers and tradies running a 2" lift or higher who need the axle re-centred rather than the whole rear end replaced

Spring Rate Selection Guide

This panhard rod doesn't carry a load rating itself, but how much adjustment you'll need depends on your total lift height and the leaf spring rate fitted at the rear. Heavier constant loads change ride height slightly and may need the rod re-adjusted, so check your setup against accessories such as a bullbar, winch, dual battery tray, rear drawers, water tanks and caravan or camper tow ball weight before locking in the final adjustment.

Installation & Setup

Fitting the adjustable panhard rod is achievable for an experienced DIY installer with hand tools, though we recommend a qualified 4WD suspension fitter given the axle alignment work involved. Wheel alignment is mandatory after installation — the panhard rod directly sets the lateral position of the rear axle, so this step isn't optional. Allow a 500km bedding-in period on the polyurethane bushings before checking final torque on the mounting hardware. If you're also correcting front-end geometry from a lift, pair this with upgraded control arms for full-vehicle alignment correction.

Why Choose Toughdog?

Roadsafe suspension components are distributed through the Toughdog range and stocked locally by our team for fast Australian dispatch. Every adjustable panhard rod is backed by manufacturer warranty, and our fitment specialists can confirm thread length and bracket compatibility before you order. View the full Toughdog range for matching shocks and springs to run alongside this rod.

Who Is This For?

This panhard rod suits Hilux 130 owners who've already fitted a 2" or higher lift kit, raised leaf springs, or larger tyres and now have the rear axle sitting off-centre. It's a common fix for tourers chasing straight tracking on long highway runs and tradies who've raised ride height for clearance. If you're also carrying constant payload — canopy, tool boxes, water tanks — look at airbag suspension to manage rear sag under load.

We stock this Roadsafe adjustable panhard rod locally for fast dispatch across Australia. Talk to our suspension specialists before you order if you're unsure whether your Hilux 130 needs this part or a different bracket length, and browse our full lift kit range if you're planning the whole suspension upgrade at once.

FAQs

Yes, this Roadsafe adjustable panhard rod is designed for the Toyota Hilux 130 Series (RN130/LN130, 1988-1997) with the solid front axle. It's the rear-fitting version with polyurethane bushings at each end. If you're unsure of your exact chassis code or model year, check our parts finder for the Hilux or contact our fitment team before ordering.

This panhard rod doesn't add lift itself — it corrects the sideways axle offset that occurs once you've fitted 2" or more of lift from a suspension kit or raised leaf springs. Without it, a lifted rear axle sits off-centre, which can cause tyre-to-guard rub and pull to one side. The off-car adjustable thread lets you set the axle back to its correct centre position at your chosen ride height.

You get one Roadsafe adjustable rear panhard rod, polyurethane bushings fitted at each end, the off-car adjustable thread assembly, and mounting hardware. It bolts to the factory chassis and axle mounting points, so no drilling is required. Wheel alignment is not included and is required after fitting.

Yes, correcting rear axle offset improves tracking and reduces rear-end wander, which matters when you're towing a van or trailer. This rod doesn't add load capacity on its own — pair it with rated leaf springs matched to your constant towing load for the full towing setup.

This is a rear panhard rod, so it doesn't affect front control arm geometry directly. If you've also lifted the front of your Hilux, upgraded control arms are worth fitting at the same time to correct front castor and CV angles. Our team can advise whether your specific lift height needs front control arm correction.

Yes, wheel alignment is mandatory after installing this panhard rod. Adjusting the rod directly changes the lateral position of the rear axle, so an alignment check confirms the axle sits correctly under the chassis. Skipping this step can leave uneven tyre wear or a slight rear offset uncorrected.

This panhard rod is a bolt-in axle location component, not a spring, so it doesn't come in different rates. Your rear spring rate is selected separately through our leaf spring range based on your constant accessory load — canopy, drawers, water tanks or towing weight. Once your spring rate and ride height are set, this rod is adjusted to match.

Correcting the rear axle offset with this rod reduces the chance of tyre rubbing on the guard or chassis rail that a lifted, off-centre axle can cause. Whether larger tyres clear fully still depends on your specific tyre size, rim offset, and the rest of your suspension setup. Our fitment team can talk through tyre clearance for your exact Hilux 130 configuration.

This Roadsafe panhard rod is covered by manufacturer warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Contact our team with your order details if you need the specific warranty period confirmed for SKU APR006. We're based in Australia and can help directly with any warranty claim.

Yes, correcting rear axle offset with this rod improves everyday tracking and steering feel, not just off-road handling. The polyurethane bushings are firmer than factory rubber but still absorb road vibration well for regular commuting and highway driving. It's a common fit for Hilux 130 owners running their lifted ute as a daily driver.
