The Serious Drag Link (part number DL710SHD) is a heavy duty drag link engineered for Patrol GU 97-15. Manufactured by Roadsafe, one of Australia's longest-standing 4WD steering and suspension specialists, it is a direct-fit part for the listed vehicles.
A key feature of the Roadsafe product range is development and range rationalisation. Roadsafe investigates ways of rationalising so only one component will cover both applications. Such is the case with the Drag Links for the Nissan Patrol. The Roadsafe Nissan Patrol Drag Links – DL700S and DL710S – have been designed based on a combination of the two different styles present for each application.
The DL700S replaces the two genuine drag links listed for the GQ Patrol, and the DL710S replaces the two genuine links listed for the GU Patrol. Since the only difference between the genuine models is the steering damper brackets – the team at Roadsafe designed the new components with two brackets on each item to allow for fitment for either application in the range. While at the drawing board, the links were also designed to be heavy-duty, with additional heavy-duty replaceable ends and adjustable to suit lifted vehicles. A worn ‘long rod’ can cause a variety of steering related issues, including wandering, erratic steering and excessive tyre wear.
It is imperative that anything with a grease nipple is greased at regular service intervals.
The Roadsafe HD Drag Links for Patrols are a compromise between being upgraded from standard, and the next step to the Comp version. Featuring 34mm OD Tube with 6.5mm wall thickness, the DL710SHD differs to the standard DL710S by the inclusion of Female Ends for increased strength. Range includes Serious version. Tie Rod Ends 8579HD.
The drag link transmits your steering input from the pitman arm to the axle. Factory links on older solid axle 4WDs are a known weak point once larger tyres are fitted — they can flex under load, and bent links cause vague, inconsistent steering. Roadsafe's heavy duty drag links use thicker-wall tube and greasable heavy duty joints, keeping the steering precise and serviceable in outback conditions.
Adjustable versions also let you correct steering wheel centring after suspension changes.
