Description

The Tough Dog Rear Adjustable Panhard Rod (TDPR-026) fits Dodge Ram 1500 models with coil-sprung rear multi-link suspension, correcting the rear axle offset that follows fitting lift kits or raised coil springs. A threaded adjustment sleeve and locking collar let you re-centre the diff under the chassis, eliminating the sideways axle shift that causes uneven tyre wear and vague handling. Heavy-duty forged rod ends and greasable bushes handle sustained towing and touring loads. In stock in Australia with manufacturer warranty and fitment support from our Toughdog specialists.

Kit Includes

  • 1 x Tough Dog Rear Adjustable Panhard Rod (Heavy-Duty Construction)
  • Precision Threaded Adjustment Mechanism
  • Heavy-Duty Rod Ends with Greasable Joints
  • High-Strength Polyurethane Bushings
  • All Required Mounting Hardware and Fasteners
  • Installation Instructions and Torque Specifications

Features

Key Features & Performance Benefits

  • Threaded adjustment sleeve lets you extend or shorten the panhard rod to re-centre the rear axle after a lift kit or raised coil spring installation
  • Corrects the sideways axle shift common on lifted Ram 1500s, restoring even tyre contact and reducing uneven tyre wear
  • Heavy-duty forged rod ends replace the factory stamped-steel unit, which has no adjustment and can't correct axle offset once ride height changes
  • Greasable bushes at both the chassis and axle mounting points allow ongoing lubrication rather than a sealed-for-life design that wears out
  • Corrosion-resistant powder-coated finish suited to Australian conditions, including coastal touring and dusty outback roads
  • Locking collar holds the adjusted length under load, so the rod doesn't creep out of alignment during towing or off-road use
  • Works alongside raised coil springs and shock absorbers as part of a complete rear suspension correction
  • Designed and stocked by Tough Dog specifically for coil-sprung rear multi-link Ram 1500 applications, not a generic universal adjustable rod

Spring Rate Selection Guide

This panhard rod is adjustable to suit whatever lift height your rear coil springs provide — the setting depends on your ride height, not a spring rate itself. Running a 2" lift needs more rod extension than a 1" lift to keep the diff centred under the chassis, so set it up once the coils are fitted and settled. Accessories such as bull bars, winches, canopies and drawer systems add constant load and affect final ride height, so factor them in when selecting coil springs before locking off the panhard rod.

Installation & Setup

Fitting this panhard rod is manageable for an experienced DIY installer with hand tools, though we recommend a workshop familiar with Ram 1500 rear multi-link geometry carry out the adjustment and torque the mounting bolts to spec. A full wheel alignment is mandatory after fitting, since changing the rod length alters the rear axle's lateral position relative to the chassis. Allow a 500km bed-in period before a final alignment check, as bushes settle in. If you've also lifted the front end, pair this install with upgraded control arms so front and rear geometry are corrected together.

Why Choose Toughdog?

Tough Dog has built 4WD suspension components in Australia for decades, testing parts under local touring and towing conditions rather than relying on overseas data alone. This panhard rod carries a manufacturer warranty and is backed by our in-house fitment support if you need help confirming adjustment settings for your ride height. Tradespeople and grey nomads running lifted Ram 1500s trust the Toughdog name for parts built to hold up under sustained load — view the full Toughdog range for matching shocks and springs.

Who Is This For?

This panhard rod suits Ram 1500 owners who've already fitted a lift kit or raised coil springs and need to correct the resulting axle offset — tradies running canopies and tourers towing caravans both fall into this category. If you're carrying constant heavy loads rather than just lifting for clearance, also look at airbag suspension to support the extra weight without over-stiffening the ride.

TDPR-026 is in stock in Australia and dispatched from local stock, with our team on hand to confirm the right adjustment setting for your lift height before you order. Browse our full lift kit range or get in touch if you need help matching this panhard rod to your Ram 1500's rear suspension setup.

FAQs

It fits Dodge Ram 1500 models with the coil-sprung rear multi-link axle (DS/DJ generation, 2009-ON), across V6 Pentastar, 5.7L Hemi V8 and EcoDiesel variants. It isn't designed for leaf-spring rear Ram 1500 variants, so confirm your rear suspension type before ordering. If you're unsure which axle type your Ram runs, use our parts finder or contact our team directly with your build details.

Yes - Tough Dog specifies TDPR-026 as the rear adjustable panhard rod for the Jeep Gladiator JT (2019 on) as well.

The kit includes one Tough Dog adjustable rear panhard rod with a threaded sleeve and locking collar, greasable rod-end bushes at both mounting points, a grease nipple, and the mounting hardware needed to bolt it in. Upper and lower control arms, shocks and coil springs are sold separately. See the Kit Includes list above for the full breakdown.

Yes. The heavy-duty forged rod ends and greasable bushes are built to hold their adjusted length under the sustained lateral load that towing puts through the rear axle. Keeping the axle correctly centred also stops the uneven tyre wear that shows up quickly under towing loads. For heavier constant tow weights, pair this rod with load-rated rear coil springs or airbag suspension.

Not necessarily for the rear axle centring this rod provides, but if you've also lifted the front end of your Ram 1500, front control arms may need attention to correct driveshaft or CV angles. This panhard rod only addresses rear lateral axle position. Speak with our fitment team about whether your specific lift height calls for upgraded control arms.

Yes, a full wheel alignment is mandatory. Adjusting the panhard rod length changes the rear axle's lateral position relative to the chassis, which affects rear toe and overall tracking. Book an alignment immediately after fitting, then again after a 500km bed-in period once the bushes have settled.

Yes, that's the advantage of an adjustable rod over the factory fixed-length unit. Whether you're running a 1" or 2" lift from raised coil springs, you extend or shorten the rod and lock the collar until the axle sits centred under the chassis. This is checked with tape measurements from the axle to fixed chassis points on both sides.

Correcting axle offset with this rod improves tyre clearance on the side the axle had shifted toward under lift, which can reduce rubbing on larger tyres. It doesn't add lift itself, so overall tyre size clearance still depends on the lift height from your coil springs and shocks. Check clearance at full steering lock and full suspension compression once everything is fitted and aligned.

It comes with Tough Dog's manufacturer warranty, backed by our local fitment support if you have a question after installation. Keep your purchase invoice as proof of purchase for any warranty claim. Contact our team directly if an issue arises with the rod or its adjustment mechanism.

Yes. Correcting axle offset improves on-road tracking and tyre wear on a daily driver, not just an off-road tourer. Once the rod is adjusted and the wheel alignment is set, the rear axle sits in its correct location under the chassis for consistent handling. It's a straightforward, one-off adjustment rather than something you need to keep tuning.
