Tough Dog rear shock absorbers for the leaf-sprung Mazda BT-50 - both the B2500/B3000 (11/2006 - 10/2011, up to 45mm lift) and the UP/UR (11/2011 - 08/2020, up to 40mm lift) - sold per pair. The same part numbers also suit the Ford Ranger PX1/PX2.
Foam Cell (FC41232) for fade-free load carrying, or the 9-position 40mm Adjustable (BM401232) to dial damping to your load.
If your vehicle wanders over corrugations or keeps bouncing after a dip, the rear dampers are usually the culprit – heat kills damping oil long before the shocks start leaking.
The Foam Cell is Tough Dog's twin-tube workhorse: a microcellular foam insert takes the place of the usual air gap inside the shock body, so the oil can't foam up as heat builds and the damping stays consistent on long corrugated stretches. The 40mm Adjustable adds 9-stage adjustable valving – run it softer for unloaded around-town driving, then firm it up when the vehicle is loaded for touring, without taking anything apart.
Shocks are sold and fitted as a pair – replacing one side only gives you uneven damping across the axle. While the old ones are off, check the bushes and mounts; hardware that's had years of flex is cheap to do at the same time.
Doing the whole vehicle at once? We also stock the matching front Shock Absorbers.
Match them with Tough Dog rear leaf springs for 2006-2011 or 2011-2020 models.

Genuine Tough Dog suspension from an authorised Australian dealer.
Tough Dog specifies the same rear shocks for the 2006-2011 BT-50 (up to 45mm lift), the 2011-2020 BT-50 UP/UR and Ford Ranger PX1/PX2 (up to 40mm lift), and the Mazda Bravo / Ford Courier PC-PH 05/1987 - 10/2006 (up to 40mm lift). They all share the same leaf-sprung rear chassis family.
Foam Cell is the all-round choice for touring – the foam insert stops the oil aerating so damping stays consistent on corrugations. Step up to the 9-stage Adjustable if the vehicle swings between unloaded weekdays and loaded trips and you want to tune the damping to match, or to the bigger-bore options if it works hard, hot and heavy most of the time.
The listed price covers both sides – always replace left and right together so the axle is evenly damped and sprung. It's a bolt-in job for a competent home mechanic or any workshop; check bushes, mounts and brake-line slack while everything is apart.
