Description

The Toughdog Adjustable Panhard Rod is purpose-built for the Suzuki Jimny (1998-2017) running a lift kit, correcting the axle offset that raised suspension causes on a live front axle. Length adjustment lets you re-centre the axle under the chassis after fitting raised coil springs, restoring straight steering and even tyre wear. Serviceable heavy-duty rod ends and a corrosion-resistant finish are built for Australian conditions, front or gravel. Backed by manufacturer warranty, dispatched from Australian stock, with fitment guidance from our team.

Kit Includes

  • 1 x Toughdog Adjustable Front Panhard Rod (Track Rod) for Suzuki Jimny
  • High-tensile steel construction with corrosion-resistant coating
  • Serviceable polyurethane bushings pre-installed
  • Threaded adjustment mechanism with lock nuts
  • All mounting hardware and fasteners included
  • Installation instructions provided
  • Note: Designed for vehicles with aftermarket lift kits installed

Features

Key Features & Performance Benefits

  • Adjustable length design allows precise axle re-centralisation after fitting a 2" to 3" lift kit on the Jimny
  • Corrects the sideways axle shift (bump steer) that occurs when raising a solid front axle
  • Restores factory steering geometry, reducing wandering and improving straight-line tracking
  • Serviceable heavy-duty bushes at both the chassis and axle mounting points, replaceable rather than press-fit
  • Corrosion-resistant coated rod body suited to Australian conditions, including gravel roads and coastal use
  • Reduces uneven tyre wear caused by an off-centre axle under load
  • Designed as a direct bolt-in replacement for the factory panhard rod using existing mounting points
  • Works alongside Toughdog shock absorbers and raised springs as part of a full lift kit correction package
  • Threaded adjustment means fine-tuning is possible on the hoist without swapping components

Spring Rate Selection Guide

This panhard rod is a geometry-correction component, so it pairs with whatever spring rate you've already chosen for your Jimny's lift height rather than replacing it. If you're planning a 2" or 3" lift, select your coil springs first based on accessory load (bull bar, winch, roof rack, driving lights), then adjust this rod to re-centre the axle at that new ride height. Common accessories affecting front load include steel bull bars, winches and light bars; rear load is affected by drawer systems, dual batteries and long-range fuel tanks.

Installation & Setup

Fitting an adjustable panhard rod is a straightforward job for an experienced DIY installer with basic hand tools, though we recommend a qualified suspension fitter given the safety implications of axle location. A wheel alignment is mandatory after installation to set toe and confirm the axle is centred under the chassis. Allow a 500km bedding-in period for the new bushes to settle before a final alignment check. These vehicles use a solid front axle on coil springs, located by radius arms and a panhard rod rather than IFS control arms, so geometry correction at lift height comes from caster-correction radius arm bushes or adjustable radius arms plus an adjustable panhard rod.

Why Choose Toughdog?

Toughdog has supplied suspension componentry to the Australian 4WD market for decades, with products developed and tested locally for our roads and climate. Every panhard rod carries a manufacturer warranty and is backed by our in-house fitment support team. You can view the full Toughdog range for shocks, springs and steering components to complete your Jimny build.

Who Is This For?

This component suits Jimny owners who've already fitted or are planning a lift kit and need to correct axle offset for safe, predictable handling. It's relevant for weekend tourers running raised suspension on gravel tracks and tradespeople whose Jimny carries tools or gear daily. If your Jimny also carries constant rear load, our airbag suspension options are worth considering alongside this correction.

This Toughdog Adjustable Panhard Rod is dispatched from Australian stock with expert fitment support from our team. Browse our full lift kit range to complete your Jimny suspension upgrade, or use our parts finder for the Jimny to check every compatible component.

FAQs

The Toughdog Adjustable Panhard Rod is designed for the Suzuki Jimny SN413 built 1998-2017, using the factory chassis and axle mounting points. It's a direct bolt-in replacement for the standard panhard rod. If you're running a different Jimny generation or an aftermarket bracket kit, check with our team via the Jimny parts finder before ordering.

This panhard rod doesn't add lift itself — it corrects axle position after lift has already been added through springs or a lift kit. Its adjustable length lets you re-centre the front axle under the chassis for lift heights typically up to 2" to 3". Lift height is set by your coil springs, not the panhard rod.

This vehicle runs a solid front axle on coil springs, located by radius arms and a panhard rod, so there are no upper or lower control arms to upgrade like an IFS vehicle. At around 2" of lift most vehicles run the kit as supplied; taller lifts benefit from caster correction (offset radius arm bushes or adjustable radius arms) to restore steering self-centring, plus an adjustable panhard rod to re-centre the axle. Our team can advise what your lift height and build need.

Yes, correct axle alignment is important whether you're towing or not, as an off-centre axle causes uneven tyre wear and unpredictable handling under load. This rod restores that alignment regardless of your towing setup. Pair it with an appropriate rear spring rate for your trailer or caravan weight for best results.

Yes, a wheel alignment is mandatory after installing this panhard rod, as adjusting rod length changes the axle's lateral position and affects toe and tracking. We recommend a follow-up check after a 500km bedding-in period once the new bushes have settled. Skipping alignment risks uneven tyre wear and off-centre steering.

Yes, this panhard rod is independent of spring rate selection and will adjust to suit whatever coil springs you've fitted for your Jimny's lift height. Choose your coil springs based on accessory load first, then set the rod length to re-centre the axle at that ride height.

Larger tyre clearance depends on your lift kit and spring choice, not on the panhard rod itself. What this rod does ensure is that the axle sits centred under the chassis, giving even clearance on both sides once larger tyres are fitted. Check your specific lift height and tyre size with our team before ordering rubber.

The Toughdog Adjustable Panhard Rod is backed by a manufacturer warranty covering material and workmanship defects. Our in-house team also provides fitment support if you have questions before or after installation. Contact us via our contact page for warranty specifics on your order.

Yes, correcting axle offset actually improves daily driving manners by restoring straight-line tracking and reducing wander that a lifted, uncorrected axle can cause. It's a common upgrade for Jimny owners running a mild lift for commuting and weekend touring alike. The serviceable bushes also mean long-term maintenance is straightforward.
