Description

Toughdog Front Upper Control Arms (TDCA-005) are purpose-built for the Toyota Prado 120 Series (2002-2009) to restore correct caster and camber angles after fitting a 2" or 3" lift kit. Supplied as a pair with pre-fitted heavy-duty ball joints, pressed rubber bushings and a powder-coated finish for corrosion resistance. Correcting geometry at height reduces steering wander, uneven tyre wear and speeds up wheel alignment. In stock in Australia with manufacturer warranty and fitment support from our control arm specialists.

Lift an independent front end and the factory control arms end up working at angles they weren't designed for – the alignment runs out of adjustment and the ball joint operates near the edge of its travel. Aftermarket arms are the proper fix on the Toyota Prado 120/150 & FJ Cruiser: corrected geometry brings castor and camber back into range so the vehicle steers and wears tyres like it should.

Fit as a pair and have the vehicle aligned immediately afterwards – the whole point of the arms is the extra alignment range, and it needs to be dialled in on the machine.

Doing the whole vehicle at once? We also stock the matching front Coil Springs and assembled Front Struts for the Toyota Prado 120/150 & FJ Cruiser.

Spring Rate Selection Guide

These control arms suit any front coil spring rate fitted to the Prado 120, so spring selection comes down to your constant accessory load. Heavier front-end additions such as bull bars, winches and driving light bars call for a firmer front coil spring rate to hold correct ride height, while a standard load can run a standard-rate lifted spring. Speak to our team about matching coil springs to your specific accessory list before ordering.

Installation & Setup

Fitting these arms is a bolt-in job for an experienced DIY installer with the right tools, though we recommend a qualified 4WD suspension workshop for the ball joint torque and caster setting. A wheel alignment is mandatory immediately after fitment to set caster, camber and toe correctly. Allow a 500km bedding-in period for the new bushings before a final alignment check. For a complete corrected front end, pair these arms with a control arm upgrade alongside your lift kit installation.

Why Choose Toughdog?

Toughdog has supplied 4WD suspension components to the Australian market for decades, with components designed and tested locally for local conditions. Every Toughdog control arm is backed by a manufacturer's warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Tourers, tradespeople and lifted daily drivers across Australia run Toughdog gear — view the full Toughdog range to match arms, springs and shocks.

Who Is This For?

This kit suits Prado 120 owners who've already fitted or plan to fit a lift kit and need correct steering geometry restored. It's a common upgrade for tourers running a 2-3" lift plus loaded roof racks or drawers, and for tradespeople covering long highway kilometres on worn factory bushings. If you're carrying constant heavy rear loads or a caravan, also look at airbag suspension to manage rear sag.

Toughdog Front Upper Control Arms TDCA-005 are in stock in Australia and dispatch fast, with our team on hand to confirm fitment before you buy. Browse our full lift kit range to plan a complete suspension upgrade for your Prado 120.

FAQs

Yes, TDCA-005 is designed specifically for the Toyota Prado 120 Series built from 2002 to 2009, covering GX, GXL, VX and Grande variants. It suits both the 3.0L turbo diesel (1KD-FTV) and 4.0L V6 petrol (1GR-FE) models, as the front upper control arm mounting is shared across engine variants. Sold as a pair for the left and right side. If you're unsure of your exact build date or variant, our team can confirm fitment before you order.

These arms are built to correct caster and camber for front lifts up to 3" on the Prado 120. Factory upper control arms run out of adjustment range once a lift kit changes ride height, causing incorrect caster and premature tyre wear. TDCA-005 restores the correct geometry range so your alignment technician can set caster back within factory tolerance. They don't add lift height themselves — they correct the geometry created by your lift kit.

You get a pair of Toughdog front upper control arms with heavy-duty ball joints already fitted, pressed rubber bushings and mounting hardware. The arms carry a powder-coated finish for corrosion resistance. Lower control arms, coil springs and shock absorbers are sold separately, so check our coil spring and shock absorber ranges if you need those too.

Tough Dog notes that fitting upper control arms to vehicles lifted more than 50mm may suffer premature ball joint failure due to droop lengths, and strut spacers may affect UCA ball joint performance and longevity. No warranty applies outside legal driving conditions.

In most cases, yes, if your lift is 2" or more. Factory upper control arms on the Prado 120 have limited adjustment, so once you lift the front end, caster angle drops out of specification. This causes steering wander and accelerated edge wear on the front tyres. TDCA-005 gives the additional adjustment range needed to bring caster back to correct settings at your new ride height.

Yes, a full four-wheel alignment is mandatory immediately after installation. The alignment sets caster, camber and toe to specification for your new geometry, and skipping this step will cause uneven tyre wear regardless of how well the arms are installed. We also recommend a follow-up alignment check after a 500km bedding-in period. Book with a shop experienced in lifted 4WD alignments where possible.

Yes, TDCA-005 is compatible with any front coil spring rate used on the Prado 120, whether standard, 2" or 3" lift height springs. Spring rate choice depends on your constant front-end load — bull bars, winches and light bars all add weight that a firmer spring rate can support. These arms don't limit your spring selection; they simply restore correct geometry once your springs are fitted.

Correcting caster and camber with these arms improves how the front tyres track and clear the guards at a lifted height, but tyre clearance itself comes down to your lift kit height and wheel offset, not the control arms alone. A 2-3" front lift on the Prado 120 typically allows for a modest tyre size increase, but always check clearance at full lock and full bump. Our team can advise on tyre and wheel combinations for your specific lift height.

TDCA-005 is covered by Toughdog's manufacturer warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. As an Australian-stocked item, any warranty claim is handled directly through our team rather than an overseas process. Contact us with your order details if you have any concerns after fitment. Full warranty terms are available on request before you buy.

Yes. Restoring correct caster and camber improves steering feel and on-centre stability for everyday driving, not just off-road use. Many Prado 120 owners fit these arms purely to fix steering wander and uneven tyre wear after a lift kit was installed for touring purposes. The powder-coated finish and pressed bushings are suited to regular daily use as well as weekend touring.
