Spring Rate Selection Guide

Choosing the right leaf spring depends on the constant load carried on the rear of your Rodeo. A tray back with a steel canopy, tool boxes and a dual battery tray sits at the heavier end, while a bare cab chassis or occasional touring setup needs less constant load support. Common accessories that affect selection include steel bullbars and winches (front weight bias), canopies, water tanks, drawer systems, long-range fuel tanks and caravan or box trailer tow ball weight.

Installation & Setup

Fitting rear leaf springs involves axle support, U-bolt removal and correct re-torquing to factory specification, so we recommend an experienced 4WD workshop or a confident DIY installer with proper axle stands and torque wrench. A wheel alignment is mandatory after fitting to correct rear axle position and confirm even ride height side to side. Allow a 500km settling-in period for the new leaf pack to bed in before final load assessment. If you are also correcting front geometry, pair this job with upgraded control arm upgrades for the front end.

Why Choose Toughdog?

Toughdog has manufactured 4WD suspension components for the Australian market for decades, with leaf springs built to handle local towing, touring and trade conditions rather than just generic OEM replacement duty. Every pack is backed by Toughdog's manufacturer warranty and supported by our in-house fitment advice if you are unsure which load rating suits your setup. Have a look through the full Toughdog range for matching shocks and front suspension components.

Who Is This For?

This leaf spring pair suits tradespeople running a canopy and tool boxes, tourers with drawers, water and fuel loaded permanently in the tray, and anyone towing a caravan or box trailer regularly with the Rodeo. If your rear end still sags under load after fitting new leaf springs, our airbag suspension range can add adjustable extra support for peak loads.

FAQs

Yes, this Toughdog leaf spring pair is manufactured to suit the Holden Rodeo TF series built between 1988 and 2003, covering both petrol and diesel variants in 4x2 and 4x4 configuration. It is built to OEM leaf pack dimensions so it bolts into the factory mounting points without modification. If you have a Rodeo outside this year range or a different chassis variant, contact our team to confirm before ordering.

This is a heavy duty replacement leaf spring, not a lift kit — its main job is to restore factory ride height and increase constant load capacity rather than add inches of lift. If your Rodeo has sagged from towing or accessory weight, fitting this pack will bring the rear back close to standard height under load. If you're after an actual raised height for tyre clearance or ground clearance, have a look at our lift kit range instead.

The kit includes two Toughdog heavy duty rear leaf spring packs, one for each side, along with the eye bushes and centre alignment bolts needed for the pack itself. Spring pads and isolators are included, plus a fitment and torque specification sheet. U-bolts, shackles and shock absorbers are not included and are sold separately, as these are often reused or upgraded independently.

Yes, these leaf springs are designed for exactly this kind of constant load use, including towing a caravan or box trailer with the Rodeo. The multi-leaf pack construction gives extra load-carrying capacity over a worn or sagged factory spring, helping keep the rear end level under tow ball weight. Pairing them with a matched set of shock absorbers from our shock absorber range helps control the extra spring rate on the road.

Control arms are a front suspension component, so they are not directly affected by a rear leaf spring change on the Rodeo. If you are also planning front height or geometry work as part of a broader suspension upgrade, our control arm range is worth reviewing at the same time. For this rear leaf spring pair on its own, no control arm changes are required.

Yes, a wheel alignment is mandatory after fitting new rear leaf springs. Changing the spring pack alters axle position and ride height slightly, and alignment confirms the rear sits level side to side and that rear toe is within specification. We recommend booking this in immediately after installation, before extended driving or towing.

This listing is the Toughdog heavy duty rated pack for the Rodeo, suited to constant loads like canopies, tool boxes and towing setups. If your accessory load is lighter or heavier than average, contact our team with details of your bullbar, canopy, water tank and typical tow ball weight so we can confirm whether this rating or an alternative Toughdog leaf pack is the better match.

Because this pack restores factory ride height rather than adding significant lift, tyre clearance will be similar to a Rodeo running a healthy, unsagged factory spring. Larger tyre fitment depends more on your front suspension setup, wheel offset and any front height changes. If you're planning a tyre size upgrade, check clearance requirements against your specific rim and tyre combination first.

This Toughdog leaf spring pair is covered by Toughdog's manufacturer warranty against manufacturing defects. Toughdog builds its suspension components for Australian conditions and stands behind its leaf springs, shocks and related hardware. If you have any concern after fitment, our team can help you through the warranty process directly.

Yes, this pack is designed to give factory-comparable ride comfort when unladen while firming up appropriately once load is added, so it suits a Rodeo used for daily driving as well as work or touring duties. It is not a race or extreme off-road only product — it is a heavy duty replacement built for everyday Australian use, including school runs, worksite trips and weekend towing.
