The Dobinsons MRA 4" Lift Kit for the Toyota LandCruiser 79 Series (1999-ON) is a 3-way adjustable remote-reservoir suspension system that raises the vehicle a genuine 4" (100mm) front and rear using load-rated coil and leaf springs matched to valved monotube shocks.
The MRA shocks are built on Dobinsons' race-bred MRR monotube platform: a 56mm outer body with a 50mm bore and piston, an 18mm micro-polished 5140 hard-chrome shock shaft rated over 700MPa tensile strength, and a carbon-fibre/PTFE composite wear band for low-friction, low-wear operation. Each shock runs a honed 6063 aluminium remote reservoir with a floating piston and 3-stage sealing, which separates oil from gas and adds the oil volume needed to resist damping fade on long corrugated sections or under sustained touring loads.
Damping is tuned by hand with three separate adjusters: low-speed compression (small dial on the reservoir), high-speed compression (large dial on the reservoir) and rebound (adjuster at the rod end) - so the same kit can run soft for an unladen commute and firm for a loaded tray, camper trailer or GVM-level touring weight. Front coil springs are available in multiple constant-load ratings and the rear leaf springs are matched to your accessory weight, keeping the 4" ride height and factory rake under real loads.

Single Cab Models: After 08/2016 Lower Front Crossmember Under Tailshaft needs to be modified to allow clearance.
Lift height compliance: A lift of this height may exceed your state's allowable limit without engineering certification. Check your state's light vehicle modification rules (VSB14/NCOP) before fitting.
Choosing the right front coil and rear leaf spring rate comes down to constant accessory weight, not occasional payload. Front load is affected by a steel bull bar, winch, driving lights and second battery, while rear load is affected by a tray, canopy, dual-cab tub fitout, water tanks and touring gear carried day to day. Tell our team your typical accessory list and we will help match a spring rate that keeps the 79 Series sitting level front to rear.
This kit is best fitted by an experienced 4WD suspension workshop given the remote reservoir hoses and 3-way adjuster dials need correct mounting and routing. Wheel alignment is mandatory after fitting to reset caster, camber and toe at the new 4" ride height. Allow a 500km bed-in period before final damping adjustment, as springs settle and bushes seat in. The 79 Series locates its solid front axle with radius arms and a panhard rod rather than IFS control arms, so pair this kit with caster correction (adjustable radius arms or high-angle caster bushes) and an adjustable front panhard rod to restore steering feel and re-centre the axle at the new ride height.
Dobinsons is an Australian-designed suspension brand tested locally across the conditions 79 Series owners actually drive in, from outback tracks to daily work use. The MRA shock and matched spring package is backed by a manufacturer warranty administered through our team as an Australian Dobinsons stockist. Tourers and tradespeople running heavier 79 Series builds rely on this platform for consistent damping under sustained load — view the full Dobinsons range for other 79 Series options.
Full manufacturer specifications are available on the official Dobinsons website.
This kit suits 79 Series owners running a tray or canopy for trade work, and tourers carrying camping gear, water and recovery equipment for extended trips. If your rear load varies significantly between empty and fully loaded, also look at airbag suspension to fine-tune ride height under changing weight without swapping leaf springs.

Yes - this kit fits the Toyota LandCruiser 79 Series from 1999 onward: Single Cab models with the 4.2L 1HZ diesel (1999-ON) or 4.5L 1VD-FTV V8 turbo diesel (2007-ON), and Dual Cab models (2012-ON, V8). Spring and damping rates are selected to suit your accessory load, so confirm your build date and setup with our team, or check compatibility through our parts finder before ordering.
The kit is designed to deliver a 4" lift front and rear when fitted with the matched load-rated springs supplied. Front lift comes from the coil spring rate selected for your accessory weight, and rear lift comes from the raised leaf springs matched to your constant load. Actual ride height can vary slightly depending on the weight of bull bars, canopies and touring gear fitted.
Please note that all assembled struts are dispatched at a height based on our experience and the manufacturer’s specifications for the advertised lift. Coil springs and leaf springs are also manufactured according to the advertised height and constant-load rating. Actual vehicle height may vary depending on the vehicle and the weight of fitted accessories. Further adjustment may therefore be required after installation. The installer may use coil spacers or adjust the struts at their discretion to achieve the desired height. We are not responsible for vehicle-specific height variations or any additional adjustments required after installation.
The kit includes 2 x Dobinsons MRA adjustable front shocks and 2 x MRA adjustable rear shocks, both with 50mm bore and remote reservoirs. It also includes front coil springs, rear leaf springs, a heavy-duty U-bolt kit and a polyurethane bush kit for the rear leaf spring mounts. Caster correction components (offset radius arm bushes or adjustable radius arms), an adjustable front panhard rod, extended brake lines and a steering damper are not included and are sold separately.
Yes, the rear leaf springs are available in load ratings suited to constant towing and touring loads, and the MRA shocks maintain consistent damping under sustained weight through the remote reservoir design. For heavier or highly variable rear loads, pairing this kit with airbag suspension gives extra load-levelling control when towing.
The 79 Series has a solid front axle on coil springs, located by radius arms and a panhard rod, so there are no upper or lower control arms to upgrade like an IFS vehicle. At a 4" lift caster correction is essential, using adjustable radius arms or high-angle caster bushes, along with an adjustable front panhard rod, extended brake lines and a driveline angle check. On single cab models after 08/2016 the lower front crossmember under the tailshaft also needs modification for clearance.
Yes, wheel alignment is mandatory after installing this kit. Raising the vehicle 4" changes caster, camber and toe, and correct alignment protects tyre wear and keeps steering feel predictable. We recommend booking an alignment immediately after fitment and again after the 500km bed-in period.
Yes, front coil springs are available in multiple constant-load ratings to suit bull bars, winches and driving light bars, and rear leaf springs are matched to your typical tray, canopy or touring load. Tell our team what accessories are fitted so we can recommend the closest match. Getting this right keeps the 79 Series sitting level and improves both handling and tyre wear.
A 4" lift on the 79 Series typically clears larger tyres than a factory height vehicle, with many owners running up to 33-35 inch tyres depending on wheel offset and any tray or guard trimming. Final tyre clearance depends on your wheel width, offset and whether a body upgrade is also fitted. Contact our team with your wheel specs to confirm clearance before ordering tyres.
This kit is backed by a Dobinsons manufacturer warranty on the MRA shock absorbers and springs, with warranty claims handled through our team as an Australian Dobinsons stockist. We hold local stock and can assist with warranty support without needing to deal directly overseas. Keep your purchase invoice as proof for any warranty claim.
Yes, the 3-way adjustable MRA shocks let you soften low-speed compression and rebound for comfortable daily commuting, then firm the settings up for off-road or loaded touring work. Selecting a front and rear spring rate matched to your actual constant load — rather than the heaviest possible rating — keeps the ride comfortable when unladen. Many 79 Series owners run this kit as their everyday work and touring setup.
