The Airbag Man Full Air Suspension Kit is a coil-replacement air spring system for the Nissan Patrol GQ (1988-1997) and GU (1997-2016), using metric nylon airline tubing and manual inflation valves to give you infinitely adjustable ride height up to 2" of lift. Air pressure is added or released at the valve to counter sag under a caravan, camper trailer or tray load, then dropped back down for a softer unladen ride. It works alongside your existing shock absorbers, or a shock upgrade if you're increasing your load capacity. Dispatched from Australian stock with manufacturer warranty and fitment support from our team.

Because this is an air spring system rather than a fixed-rate coil, you don't select a spring rate up front — air pressure is adjusted at the valve to suit the load on the day. Run less pressure for unladen touring and increase pressure to counter the weight of a bullbar, winch, long-range fuel tank, canopy, drawers or a loaded caravan or camper trailer tow ball. Talk to our team about starting pressures if you're running heavy constant accessories on the front or rear of your Patrol.
Fitting the coil-replacement air springs means compressing and removing the factory coil, seating the air spring in the same location, then running the metric airline to the inflation valve — this is a job for an experienced DIY fitter with spring compressors, or your usual suspension workshop. Wheel alignment is mandatory after fitment since ride height and suspension geometry change once the air springs are set. Run the kit for 500km before fine-tuning pressures, allowing the air springs to seat properly. These vehicles use a solid front axle on coil springs, located by radius arms and a panhard rod rather than IFS control arms, so geometry correction at lift height comes from caster-correction radius arm bushes or adjustable radius arms plus an adjustable panhard rod.
Airbag Man has been designing air spring kits for Australian 4WDs for over 25 years, with GQ and GU Patrol kits developed for local conditions rather than adapted from overseas parts bins. Every kit ships with a manufacturer warranty, and our team can talk you through pressure settings for your specific load. Tourers and tradies running Patrols with a constant caravan, camper or tray load rely on this system to keep ride height consistent trip to trip — view the full Airbag Man range for other Patrol options.
This kit suits GQ and GU Patrol owners towing a caravan or camper trailer who need to correct rear sag at the tow ball, and tradies running a tray, canopy or toolboxes who carry a similar load most days. If your load varies significantly, from empty to fully loaded, airbag suspension gives you one system that adjusts to both without swapping springs.

This kit is built for coil-sprung Nissan Patrol GQ (1988-1997) and GU (1997-2016) models, with air springs seating in the factory coil location front and rear. Because the Patrol range spans wagon, cab-chassis and ute variants with different rear spring setups over that period, confirm your exact model via our Patrol parts finder before ordering. Our team can also check your build against the OA4513M kit specs directly. This ensures the coil location and tubing routing match your chassis.
The kit gives up to 2" of adjustable lift over standard ride height, controlled by air pressure rather than a fixed spring rate. Unlike a coil or leaf lift kit, the height isn't a single fixed figure — you inflate to raise the vehicle under load and deflate for a softer unladen ride. This makes it well suited to Patrols that alternate between empty running and towing or carrying a load. Our team can advise on typical pressures for common setups.
The kit includes front and rear Airbag Man air springs (coil-replacement design), metric nylon airline tubing, two manual inflation valves, T-fittings and airline clips, plus mounting brackets and hardware for the coil location. Fitting instructions are included. Shock absorbers are not part of this kit — it's designed to work with your existing or upgraded shocks. See the full kit contents list above for exact quantities.
Yes, this is a common use case for the kit. Increasing air pressure in the rear air springs counters the sag caused by caravan or camper trailer tow ball weight, keeping the Patrol's ride height and headlight aim closer to level. You adjust pressure to match the specific trailer or load, rather than running a single fixed rear spring rate. Deflate again for unladen driving between trips.
This vehicle runs a solid front axle on coil springs, located by radius arms and a panhard rod, so there are no upper or lower control arms to upgrade like an IFS vehicle. At around 2" of lift most vehicles run the kit as supplied; taller lifts benefit from caster correction (offset radius arm bushes or adjustable radius arms) to restore steering self-centring, plus an adjustable panhard rod to re-centre the axle. Our team can advise what your lift height and build need.
Yes, wheel alignment is required after fitting these air springs, particularly once you settle on a regular operating pressure. Changing ride height alters camber, caster and toe slightly, even with an adjustable air system. Have the alignment checked and set at your typical loaded or unladen pressure, whichever you'll run most often. This protects tyre wear and keeps steering predictable.
There's no fixed spring rate to choose with this kit — air pressure replaces that function. Instead of selecting a heavier or lighter spring, you add or release air at the valve to suit the load on the day, from empty touring to a fully hitched caravan. This gives more flexibility than a fixed-rate coil or leaf spring for Patrols carrying variable loads. Our team can suggest starting pressures for your accessories.
Up to 2" of extra height at full inflation can improve clearance for a modest tyre size increase, but the exact size that clears your GQ or GU depends on rim offset, guard trimming and whether you run the kit inflated or deflated day to day. We recommend confirming tyre size fitment with our team before purchasing new tyres. This avoids rubbing at full articulation or lower air pressure settings.
This Airbag Man kit is backed by a manufacturer's warranty covering the air springs and included hardware against manufacturing defects. Contact our team for the exact warranty term applying to the OA4513M kit before you order. Keep your proof of purchase and have the kit fitted correctly, as incorrect installation can affect warranty claims. We can also advise on care to maximise air spring life.
Yes. Run lower air pressure for a softer, more compliant ride for everyday unladen driving, then increase pressure only when towing or carrying a load. This is one of the practical advantages of an air spring system over a fixed-rate coil lift — you're not locked into one ride quality regardless of what's on board. Many GQ and GU owners run this kit as their daily setup, adjusting pressure as needed.
