Description

Toughdog Front Foam Cell Struts replace the factory front units on the Nissan Pathfinder R51 (2005-2013) with a twin-tube, foam cell-filled strut that stops oil aeration on corrugations and long descents. Supplied as a heavy-duty pair, they hold damping consistency under sustained load better than a standard gas-charged strut, making them a solid match for tourers already running upgraded coil springs. Dispatched from Australian stock with Toughdog's manufacturer warranty and direct fitment support from our suspension team.

Browse all compatible suspension parts for your Front Foam Cell Struts Nissan using our parts finder.

Kit Includes

  • 2 x Toughdog Front Foam Cell Struts (Driver and Passenger Side)
  • Factory-sealed twin-tube construction with foam cell technology
  • Pre-filled with premium hydraulic oil
  • Protective dust boots included
  • Heavy-duty upper mounting hardware
  • Corrosion-resistant coating applied
  • Comprehensive fitting instructions
  • Note: Front coil springs sold separately - refer to our coil springs range for matching options

Features

Key Features & Performance Benefits

  • Twin-tube foam cell strut design — a closed-cell foam insert sits inside the oil chamber to stop oil frothing (aeration) on washboard corrugations and long braking descents.
  • Heavy-duty valving tuned for the Pathfinder R51's front strut mounting, holding damping consistency under sustained load rather than fading after extended rough-track running.
  • Direct bolt-in fitment to the factory strut towers and lower control arm mounts — no drilling or bracket fabrication needed.
  • Standard ride height replacement — built to restore or match OE front geometry so alignment settings stay close to factory spec.
  • Chrome-plated shaft and multi-stage seals resist corrosion from road salt, dust and water crossings, relevant for both coastal and outback use.
  • Supplied as a genuine matched pair (2 x struts) so damping rates are consistent side to side — avoids the uneven handling that comes from mixing a new strut with a tired factory unit.
  • Works well alongside upgraded shock absorbers and coil springs if you're staging your suspension upgrade rather than fitting a full kit at once.
  • Sold and dispatched from Toughdog's Australian-market stock, backed by manufacturer warranty rather than shipped on import indent.

Spring Rate Selection Guide

These struts are supplied without coil springs, so spring rate choice depends on what you're carrying up front — a bullbar, winch and driving lights all add constant load that a standard-rate spring wasn't designed for. If your Pathfinder carries a steel bullbar or long-range fuel tank, a firmer front coil spring will hold ride height better than the factory rate. Talk to our team about matching spring rate to your accessory list before fitting.

Installation & Setup

Fitment is a bolt-in strut swap at the factory towers and lower control arm mounts, straightforward for an experienced DIY installer with the right spring compressor or suited to a professional workshop fitment. Wheel alignment is mandatory after installation because front castor and camber shift slightly whenever the strut assembly is disturbed. Allow a 500km settling period for seals and bushes to bed in before final alignment checks. If you're running larger tyres or a raised spring, consider pairing these struts with upgraded control arms to correct front geometry.

Why Choose Toughdog?

Toughdog has supplied 4WD suspension componentry to the Australian aftermarket for decades, with foam cell technology developed specifically to cope with local conditions like corrugated outback roads and stop-start touring loads. Every strut is backed by a manufacturer warranty and supported by our in-house fitment team, not a generic overseas call centre. You can view the full Toughdog range to compare struts, shocks and spring options for your Pathfinder.

Who Is This For?

These struts suit Pathfinder R51 owners replacing tired factory front struts, tradespeople carrying tools and equipment daily, and tourers running a bullbar and driving lights who need more consistent front-end damping. If you're carrying variable loads such as a caravan or camper trailer, also look at airbag suspension to manage rear sag independently of the front struts.

In stock in Australia and dispatched promptly with fitment support from our suspension specialists — browse our full lift kit range if you're planning a bigger front-end upgrade alongside these struts.

FAQs

Yes — these Toughdog Foam Cell Struts are a direct bolt-in fit for the Nissan Pathfinder R51 built between 2005 and 2013, covering the 2.5L YD25 diesel, 3.0L V9X diesel and 4.0L VQ40DE petrol variants. They mount to the factory strut towers and lower control arm points without drilling or bracket changes. If you drive an R50 or R52 generation Pathfinder, check with our team first as strut mounting points differ. You can also confirm your exact build using our Pathfinder parts finder.

These struts are a standard-height replacement — they're built to restore or match the factory front ride height rather than raise it. They don't come with a coil spring, so any lift depends entirely on the spring you pair with them. If you want a raised front end, ask our team about a matching front coil spring option before ordering. Fitting the struts alone with the factory-height spring keeps your Pathfinder at stock ride height.

This listing includes 2 x Toughdog Foam Cell Front Struts as a matched pair, along with top mount hardware and lower mounting bolts. Front coil springs are not included, so you'll reuse your existing springs or order new ones separately. Upper control arms are also not included. Full contents are listed in the Kit Includes section on this page.

Yes, the foam cell design is aimed at exactly this kind of sustained load — it resists oil aeration and damping fade better than a standard gas strut when towing a trailer or caravan over long distances. Front struts mainly affect steering feel and bump control rather than payload, so if you're carrying heavy front accessories like a bullbar and winch, pair these struts with a firmer front coil spring. For rear load support under tow, look at our leaf spring and airbag suspension options.

Not necessarily at standard ride height, since these struts are designed to match factory geometry. If you fit a raised front coil spring alongside them, front control arm angles change and upgraded control arms help correct castor and reduce CV joint wear. It's worth discussing your planned ride height with our team before deciding.

Yes, wheel alignment is mandatory after fitting these struts because removing and refitting the front strut assembly disturbs camber and castor settings. We recommend an alignment straight after installation and a follow-up check after a 500km settling period as bushes and seals bed in. Skipping alignment can cause uneven tyre wear and affect steering feel.

Yes — because these struts are supplied without coil springs, you can select a spring rate to suit your accessory load, whether that's a bullbar, winch, long-range fuel tank or driving lights. A firmer spring rate holds ride height better under constant front load than the factory-rate spring. Speak with our team about matching a spring option from our coil spring range to your specific accessories.

These struts alone don't add lift, so tyre clearance depends on whatever spring and rear setup you run alongside them. If you're planning larger tyres, a raised spring option combined with correctly set-up control arms typically gives the clearance needed. Talk to our fitment team about your target tyre size before choosing springs.

These Toughdog Front Foam Cell Struts are covered by Toughdog's manufacturer warranty, supported directly by our Australian team if you need help with a warranty claim or fitment question. Keep your proof of purchase and follow the recommended 500km bed-in and alignment process to keep warranty conditions intact. Contact us via our contact page if you have a warranty query.

Yes — because these struts are a standard-height, direct-fit replacement, they're suited to daily driving as well as touring and towing. The foam cell insert improves damping consistency without making the ride harsh on regular road surfaces. Many Pathfinder owners fit these as a straight replacement for worn factory struts on a daily driver that also sees weekend touring duty.
