Description

Tough Dog Front Remote Reservoir Adjustable Shocks give the Toyota LandCruiser 76 Series wagon (1999-ON) a 12-way externally adjustable damping circuit, with the oil and nitrogen gas charge split into a separate reservoir to cut heat-related fade on long corrugated runs. Sold as a pair for the front axle, these premium shock absorbers suit 76 Series wagons carrying bull bars, winches and driving lights where factory damping struggles under the extra unsprung weight. Pair them with correctly rated front coil springs to match your accessory load. In stock in Australia now, backed by a manufacturer warranty and fitment support from our team.

Kit Includes

  • During placing the order when selecting Spring Rate for front and rear Please select only Current Constant Load.
  • Occasional Loads and Towing is not considering as constant load.
  • By Selecting unrequired and too Heavy coil/Leaf spring rate result will be rough ride and may stretch/damage other suspension component.

Features

Key Features & Performance Benefits

  • 12-way externally adjustable damping lets you tune compression and rebound from the top of the shock without removal, useful when switching between unladen touring and a loaded-up trip with a bull bar, winch and driving lights fitted.
  • Remote reservoir design separates the oil and nitrogen gas charge into a dedicated canister, reducing aeration and heat-related fade on long corrugated or high-speed touring runs compared to a standard twin-tube shock.
  • Sold as a genuine front-axle pair specifically valved for the 76 Series LandCruiser wagon, not a generic universal-fit shock.
  • Larger bore piston and remote canister volume give the shock more oil capacity to manage heat than a standard front shock, which matters when the 76 Series is carrying front-mounted accessories.
  • Works alongside standard-height or raised front coil springs — commonly paired with 2" or 3" lift setups to keep damping matched to ride height.
  • Seals and hard chrome shaft finish are specified for Australian on-road and off-road use, including dust, water crossings and extended corrugation exposure.
  • Improves steering feel and front-end control when towing a trailer or running a heavier front bar, by giving finer control over compression damping than a fixed-rate shock.
  • Braided remote hoses and bracket-mounted reservoirs keep the canister positioned clear of heat sources in the engine bay on the 76 Series chassis.

Spring Rate Selection Guide

Front spring rate on a 76 Series needs to match the constant weight sitting over the front axle — a steel bull bar, winch and driving light bar can add real weight before you've packed anything. Talk to us about matching front coil springs to that accessory load so the shock isn't doing all the work managing ride height and control. Common front-end additions to account for include steel bull bars, electric winches, dual battery trays and driving light bars.

Installation & Setup

Fitment is a bolt-in job for an experienced workshop or a confident DIY installer with the vehicle safely raised and supported. Wheel alignment is mandatory after fitting, since castor and camber shift slightly whenever front damping and ride height are changed. Allow a 500km settling-in period before making fine adjustments to the damping dial. If you're upgrading damping and load capacity together, it's worth reviewing control arm upgrades at the same time to keep front-end geometry correct.

Why Choose Toughdog?

Tough Dog has been supplying Australian 4WD owners with locally engineered suspension for decades, with shock tuning developed around Australian road and track conditions rather than imported off-the-shelf valving. Every shock is backed by a manufacturer warranty, and the brand is used across the ute tray, tourer and remote-station 4WD market. You can view the full Toughdog range to see matching rear shocks, coil springs and leaf springs for the 76 Series.

Who Is This For?

This kit suits 76 Series owners running a front bull bar, winch or driving lights who need finer damping control than a standard fixed shock offers, including remote-area tourers and trades utes carrying front-mounted gear. If your load is more about constant rear weight — camper trailers, canopy tool storage or caravan towing — it's worth also looking at airbag suspension to manage rear sag under load.

Order your Tough Dog Front Remote Reservoir Adjustable Shocks from Australian stock today, with fast dispatch and fitment support from our team, or browse our full lift kit range for a complete 76 Series suspension upgrade.

FAQs

Yes, this shock is specifically valved for the Toyota LandCruiser 76 Series wagon, covering the 4.2L 1HZ diesel, 4.5L 1FZ-FE petrol and 4.5L V8 1VD-FTV turbo diesel variants from 1999 onward. It is not a universal shock — it's built to the mounting points and damping requirements of the 76 Series front end specifically. If you're unsure of your build date or engine, our team can confirm fitment before you order.

These shocks alone don't set your ride height — that's controlled by the front coil springs. They're commonly run with standard-height springs or paired with 2" or 3" raised front coils for a lifted setup. Talk to our team about matching coil spring height to these shocks if you're planning a lift.

You get 2 x Tough Dog Front Remote Reservoir Adjustable Shock Absorbers, remote reservoir brackets and braided hoses, mounting bushes, sleeves and hardware. Fitting instructions are included. Rear shocks and coil or leaf springs are not part of this kit and are sold separately.

Front shocks primarily affect steering feel and front-end control rather than towing capacity, which is governed more by your rear springs and GVM rating. The 12-way adjustability does help manage front-end dip under braking when towing a trailer with weight on the tow ball. For rear load support while towing, look at matching rear leaf or coil springs rated for your accessory and trailer weight.

Not necessarily for a standard-height fitment, but if you're running these shocks with raised front coil springs beyond about 2", correcting castor angle with upgraded control arms keeps steering geometry and CV joint angles within spec. Our team can advise based on your final ride height. See our control arm range for 76 Series-compatible options.

Yes, wheel alignment is required after fitting these shocks, particularly if ride height or spring rate changes at the same time. Castor and camber shift slightly with any front suspension change, and correct alignment protects tyre wear and steering stability. We recommend booking an alignment straight after installation.

This listing is for the shock absorbers only, so spring rate is selected separately through our coil spring range. Front spring rate should be matched to your constant accessory load — bull bar, winch and driving lights all add weight before you pack anything else. Our team can help you pick the right rated coil to pair with these shocks.

These shocks alone don't change your ride height or wheel clearance — tyre clearance depends on the coil spring height and any body or bar work fitted. If you're planning larger tyres, we'd look at your overall spring and shock combination together, including whether a 2" or 3" front lift is needed for clearance.

These shocks are covered by Tough Dog's manufacturer warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Full warranty terms are confirmed at the time of purchase and cover normal on and off-road use. Contact our team if you need the specific warranty documentation for your invoice.

Yes, the 12-way damping adjustment lets you dial in a firmer setting for loaded touring or a softer setting for unladen daily driving and highway use. Many 76 Series owners run these year-round, adjusting the damping dial as their accessory load changes between work and touring trips. The remote reservoir design also helps maintain consistent damping on long daily commutes in hot conditions.
