Key Features & Performance Benefits

  • 50mm (2 inch) Rear Lift Height: Precision-engineered raised leaf springs deliver 50mm of rear suspension lift, improving ground clearance, approach and departure angles, and load-levelling capability when carrying payload or towing
  • Twin-Tube Nitrogen Gas Shock Technology: Dobinsons Nitro Gas shocks feature twin-tube design with nitrogen gas charging, larger 60mm and 51mm body sizes, 35mm and 32mm bore sizes, and double-chromed 18mm hardened piston rods for superior damping control and fade resistance
  • Premium German Fuchs Oil: High-grade Fuchs shock absorber oil maintains consistent viscosity across extreme temperature ranges from subzero to over 100°C, preventing shock fade during extended outback touring or heavy-duty use
  • Japanese NOK Multi-Lip Seals: Industry-leading NOK seals with Teflon piston rings provide exceptional sealing performance, preventing oil leakage and extending service life even in harsh dusty and corrugated road conditions
  • Vehicle-Specific Valving: Each shock absorber is dyno-tested and valved specifically for the Mazda BT50 2020-on platform, balancing on-road ride comfort with off-road control and load-carrying stability
  • Increased Oil Capacity: Larger shock body sizes provide increased oil volume compared to OE dampers, maintaining cooler operating temperatures during extended use and reducing performance fade under load
  • Australian Designed and Tested: Developed by Dobinsons' in-house suspension engineers in Australia and tested on local terrain including corrugated outback tracks, highway touring, and heavy payload scenarios typical of Australian 4WD use
  • Heavy Duty Coil and Leaf Springs: Matched front coil springs and rear leaf springs are designed for increased constant load capacity while maintaining comfortable unladen ride quality for daily driving
  • Natural Rubber Bushings: Premium natural rubber shock bushings reduce noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) for improved ride refinement on sealed roads and highways
  • Corrosion-Resistant Construction: Steel dust covers (where applicable), double-chrome hardened rods, and quality external finishes protect against rust and corrosion in saltwater coastal and inland environments

Vehicle Compatibility & Fitment

Make Model Series Years Body Type
Mazda BT-50 TF Series 2020-On (Current) Dual Cab, Extra Cab, Single Cab

This kit suits all Mazda BT50 models from August 2020 onwards (TF platform). Not sure if this fits your specific vehicle variant or if you have aftermarket accessories fitted? Contact our suspension experts for personalised fitment advice or check our FAQ page for common questions.

Spring Rate Selection Guide

Selecting the correct front coil and rear leaf spring rate is critical for optimal ride quality and safety. Spring rates should be chosen based on your constant accessory load — the weight permanently fitted to your vehicle including bull bars, winches, steel trays, canopies, roof racks, dual battery systems, long-range fuel tanks, and drawer systems. Occasional loads such as camping gear, recovery equipment, or trailer towing should not be factored into spring rate selection as they are temporary. Selecting an unnecessarily heavy spring rate for occasional use will result in an excessively firm and uncomfortable ride when the vehicle is unladen, and may place additional stress on suspension bushings and other suspension components. Our team can help calculate your constant load and recommend the ideal spring rates for your specific setup.

Installation & Setup

Professional installation by a qualified 4WD suspension specialist is strongly recommended to ensure correct fitment, safety, and warranty compliance. While experienced home mechanics with appropriate tools can install this kit, a full four-wheel alignment is mandatory after installation to prevent premature tyre wear and ensure optimal handling characteristics. All Dobinsons suspension components benefit from a 500km break-in period during which springs will settle and dampers will bed in — final ride height and comfort will be achieved after this initial settling period. Depending on your BT50's existing suspension condition and intended use, you may wish to pair this lift kit with upgraded heavy-duty control arms to restore proper suspension geometry and improve wheel travel at lifted ride heights.

Why Choose Dobinsons?

Dobinsons Spring & Suspension has been manufacturing premium suspension components in Australia for over 60 years, exporting to more than 40 countries worldwide while maintaining their Australian head office and engineering team. Every Dobinsons shock absorber and spring is designed specifically for Australian conditions using state-of-the-art dyno testing, custom-built durability testing equipment, and real-world validation on outback corrugations, coastal highways, and extreme temperature environments. Trusted by touring families, tradespeople, emergency services, and mining operations across Australia, the full Dobinsons suspension range is backed by comprehensive warranty coverage and decades of proven field performance in the harshest conditions on earth.

Who Is This Kit For?

This Dobinsons Nitro Gas 2" lift kit is ideal for Mazda BT50 owners who carry constant payload in steel trays or canopies, regularly tow caravans or heavy trailers, tour remote regions with camping and recovery gear, or require increased ground clearance for off-road access tracks. Tradespeople carrying toolboxes and equipment will appreciate the improved load capacity and ride stability, while touring families benefit from the balanced on-road comfort and off-road capability. If you frequently carry extremely heavy or variable loads, consider supplementing this lift kit with adjustable airbag suspension for on-demand load support and the ability to fine-tune ride height and firmness based on changing payload requirements.

Ready to transform your Mazda BT50's capability, comfort and stance? This complete Dobinsons Nitro Gas lift kit is in stock now at 4WD Suspension Australia with fast dispatch to all Australian states and territories. FAQs

This kit is specifically engineered to fit all Mazda BT50 models from August 2020 onwards (TF series platform), including dual cab, extra cab, and single cab body configurations. It suits both petrol and diesel engine variants across the 2020-current model range. If you have a pre-2020 BT50 (older generation), this kit will not fit and you'll need a different application-specific kit. If you're unsure about your exact model year or have aftermarket modifications already fitted, our suspension experts can confirm compatibility before you order.

This kit provides 50mm (2 inches) of rear suspension lift via the raised leaf springs, with corresponding front lift achieved through the matched heavy-duty coil springs to maintain balanced ride height and vehicle stance. Actual front lift height can vary between 30-50mm depending on the constant accessory load fitted to your BT50 (bull bar, winch, etc.). Final settled ride height will be achieved after approximately 500km of driving as springs bed in and settle under load. The lift height is designed to accommodate larger diameter tyres, improve ground clearance, and level the vehicle when carrying typical touring or work loads.

This complete kit includes everything needed for front and rear suspension upgrade: 2 front Nitro Gas shock absorbers, 2 heavy-duty front coil springs, 2 rear Nitro Gas shock absorbers, 2 raised 50mm rear leaf springs, 4 heavy-duty U-bolts for leaf spring installation, and 1 complete polyurethane bush kit with all necessary mounting hardware. All components are application-specific for the Mazda BT50 2020-on and designed to work together as a matched system. Note that upper control arms are not included and may be required depending on your vehicle's suspension geometry requirements at lifted height.

Yes, this Dobinsons kit is excellent for towing applications with its heavy-duty raised leaf springs and vehicle-specific shock valving designed to control loaded weight. The 50mm raised rear leaf springs provide improved load capacity and help maintain level ride height when carrying towball weight from caravans or trailers. The Nitro Gas shock absorbers are valved to handle increased payload and provide superior damping control under towing conditions compared to standard shocks. For vehicles that tow very heavy loads or require additional adjustability, consider supplementing this kit with airbag suspension for on-demand load support and fine-tuning capability.

While this 2 inch lift kit can be installed with factory control arms on most BT50 configurations, upgrading to heavy-duty aftermarket control arms is recommended for optimal suspension geometry, increased wheel travel, and improved off-road articulation. Aftermarket control arms restore proper ball joint and CV axle angles at lifted height, reduce wear on drivetrain components, and often feature stronger construction and upgraded bushings for heavy-duty use. Our suspension specialists can assess your specific vehicle setup and intended use to recommend whether control arm upgrades are necessary for your application. Control arms are sold separately and available from our range.

Yes, a full four-wheel alignment is absolutely mandatory after installing any lift kit or suspension modification. Lifting your BT50 changes the suspension geometry and will affect toe, camber, and caster angles which directly impact tyre wear, steering feel, and vehicle handling. Failure to perform alignment after installation will result in rapid and uneven tyre wear, poor steering response, and potentially unsafe handling characteristics. The alignment should be performed by a qualified suspension specialist using a modern alignment machine after the kit is fully installed and torqued to specification. A follow-up alignment check is also recommended after the 500km break-in period once springs have fully settled.

Yes, Dobinsons offers multiple spring rate options for both front coil springs and rear leaf springs to match your specific constant accessory load. During ordering, you'll select spring rates based on the permanent weight fitted to your vehicle such as bull bars, winches, steel trays, canopies, roof racks, dual batteries, and long-range tanks. It's critical to select spring rates based only on constant (permanently fitted) load — not occasional loads like camping gear or trailer weight. Selecting unnecessarily heavy spring rates will result in an excessively harsh ride when unladen and may cause premature wear to suspension bushings and components. Our team can help calculate your constant load and recommend the optimal spring rates.

With the 50mm of lift provided by this Dobinsons kit, most Mazda BT50 2020-on models can accommodate tyres in the 265/70R17 to 275/65R18 range (approximately 31-32 inch diameter) without rubbing on factory guards, though this depends on wheel offset and specific tyre profile. Some minor trimming of plastic guards or fitting of aftermarket flares may be required for wider or more aggressive tread patterns. For tyres larger than 32 inches, additional modifications such as guard trimming, body lift, or aftermarket fender flares are typically necessary. Always test-fit and check for clearance at full steering lock and full suspension compression before committing to a tyre size, and ensure your chosen combination complies with local regulations.

Dobinsons suspension components are backed by a comprehensive manufacturer warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship, reflecting the brand's confidence in their Australian engineering and quality manufacturing processes. Warranty terms vary by component type and are subject to professional installation, correct spring rate selection, and use within normal operating parameters. To maintain warranty validity, installation must be performed by a qualified technician, a four-wheel alignment must be completed after fitment, and the vehicle must not exceed the component's rated load capacity. Full warranty details and terms are provided with the kit, and our team can answer any warranty-specific questions before purchase.

Absolutely — this kit is specifically designed to balance off-road capability with on-road comfort for vehicles that spend significant time on sealed roads and highways. The Nitro Gas twin-tube shock absorbers feature vehicle-specific valving that provides controlled damping without the harsh ride often associated with heavy-duty off-road shocks. Natural rubber bushings reduce noise and vibration, while the matched spring rates (when correctly selected) maintain comfortable ride quality when unladen or lightly loaded. Many BT50 owners use this kit as their everyday suspension setup for commuting, family use, and highway touring, with the added benefit of improved capability when heading off-road or carrying loads on weekends.

Proper Kit for Serious Outback Work

By: Colin L on 17 June 2026
Finally got this Dobinsons 2 inch lift fitted to my BT50 before a Simpson Desert trip and it's been absolutely faultless over some seriously corrugated tracks. The nitro gas shocks handle the weight of my loaded canopy and long-range tanks without any of that wallowing you get with cheaper setups. Been through plenty of creek crossings and rough pinch points where articulation matters, and this kit just works. Worth every dollar if you're actually getting remote rather than just mall crawling.

Perfect Upgrade for Our Family Camping Rig

By: Lisa T on 16 June 2026
Had the Dobinsons 2 inch lift kit fitted to our BT50 about three months ago and it's been brilliant for our monthly trips down to the Victorian High Country. The ride quality is noticeably smoother over corrugations compared to the stock setup, and the extra clearance has already saved us a few times on rougher tracks. Everything fitted perfectly as advertised and the difference when towing our camper trailer is night and day - much more composed and stable.

Perfect Setup for Our Lap Around Australia

By: Becky R on 15 June 2026
After 18 months on the road towing our caravan through the Kimberley, Cape York and everywhere in between, this Dobinsons lift kit has been absolutely brilliant on our BT50. The ride quality loaded up is leagues better than stock, and we've had no dramas on corrugations or rough tracks. Well worth every cent for serious touring.

Perfect Setup for Serious Outback Work

By: Penny O on 13 June 2026
Been running this Dobinsons 2 inch lift kit on my BT50 through the Simpson Desert and Cape York, and it's absolutely transformed the vehicle. The nitro gas shocks handle corrugations brilliantly without that jarring harshness you get from cheaper setups, and the extra clearance has saved my diff more times than I can count on rocky creek crossings. Everything fitted up perfectly with no dramas, which is exactly what you want when you're relying on your rig hundreds of k's from anywhere.

Perfect Upgrade for Our Family Camping Trips

By: Lisa T on 10 June 2026
Finally got the Dobinsons 2 inch lift kit fitted to our BT50 and couldn't be happier with how it's transformed the ute. We've done a few weekend trips down to the South Coast since the install and the ride quality is noticeably better, especially when loaded up with camping gear and the kids in the back. The extra clearance has given me so much more confidence on the beach tracks at Stockton, and everything bolted up perfectly without any dramas.
