Spring Rate Selection Guide

Selecting the correct spring rate is critical to achieving optimal ride quality and load-carrying performance. This kit offers multiple spring rate options for both front coil springs and rear leaf springs, matched to your vehicle's constant accessory load—the combined weight of all permanently fitted accessories. Front constant loads typically include bull bars, winches, upgraded bumpers, larger batteries, long-range fuel tanks and driving lights. Rear constant loads include canopies, toolboxes, drawer systems, dual spare tyres, roof racks with RTT, water tanks and tray-mounted equipment. Occasional loads such as passengers, camping gear, firewood or towing are not considered constant load—selecting too heavy a spring rate for occasional use will result in harsh ride quality and potential damage to suspension bushings and chassis mounts. When ordering, accurately calculate your total constant load and select the appropriate front and rear spring rate to match.

Installation & Setup

This kit is designed as a direct bolt-in replacement for factory suspension components and can be installed by experienced DIY enthusiasts with appropriate equipment or by professional 4WD suspension workshops. Professional installation is recommended to ensure correct torque specifications, spring seating and safety. A full wheel alignment is mandatory after installation to restore correct camber, caster and toe settings, which will be altered by the 30mm lift. A 500km break-in period is recommended to allow springs to settle and bushings to seat—ride height may settle 5-10mm during this period. For optimal suspension geometry and ball joint longevity, consider pairing this kit with upgraded control arms featuring adjustable camber correction and heavy-duty ball joints.

Who Is This Kit For?

This Dobinsons Nitro Gas Lift Kit is engineered for Mitsubishi Triton owners who demand balanced on-road comfort and genuine off-road capability. Ideal for tradies carrying constant toolbox and canopy loads, touring enthusiasts fitting bull bars and long-range tanks, weekend adventurers upgrading for beach and trail access, and caravan or boat towers requiring improved rear-end stability and load support. If you regularly tow heavy loads or carry significant rear weight, consider adding airbag suspension to fine-tune ride height and prevent rear sag while maintaining ride quality when unloaded.

FAQs

This kit is specifically engineered to fit Mitsubishi Triton models MQ (2015-2018), MR (2018-2024), ML (2006-2009) and MN (2009-2015) across all cab configurations including single cab, club cab and dual cab. The kit is a direct bolt-in replacement using factory mounting points with no chassis modifications required. To confirm exact fitment for your vehicle's build date and variant, use our online parts finder tool or contact our suspension specialists with your VIN number. All variants including 4x2 and 4x4 drivetrains are covered by this kit specification.

This Dobinsons kit delivers a proven 30mm (approximately 1.2 inches) of lift at both the front and rear, measured at the axle centerline when fitted with appropriate spring rates for your constant load. This lift height typically allows fitment of tyres up to 32-33 inches diameter without rubbing, though exact clearance depends on wheel offset, tyre width and suspension travel. The increased ground clearance also improves approach, departure and ramp-over angles for more confident off-road navigation. For maximum tyre clearance on heavily accessorised vehicles, additional trimming of front guard liners may be required during full compression.

The kit includes everything needed for front and rear suspension upgrade: 2x Dobinsons twin-tube nitro gas front struts, 2x Dobinsons front coil springs (30mm lift), 2x Dobinsons nitro gas rear shock absorbers, 2x Dobinsons raised rear leaf springs (30mm lift), 4x heavy-duty U-bolts for leaf spring mounting, and 1x complete polyurethane bushing kit. All mounting hardware is included for a complete installation. Note that upper control arms, extended brake lines, and steering dampers are sold separately and may be recommended depending on your vehicle's configuration and intended use—our team can advise on complementary upgrades during your order.

Yes, this kit is engineered to significantly improve towing performance through firmer rear leaf spring rates and performance-tuned shock absorbers that reduce rear-end sag, body roll and pitch oscillation under towing loads. The twin-tube nitro gas shocks feature larger oil capacity and vehicle-specific valving to maintain control and reduce fade during extended highway towing or steep terrain descents. When selecting spring rates during ordering, ensure you account for tow ball download weight as part of your constant rear load calculation. For vehicles that tow intermittently or vary between light and heavy loads, consider adding airbag suspension for on-demand load adjustment without compromising unloaded ride quality.

While not strictly mandatory for a 30mm lift, upgraded control arms are highly recommended to restore correct suspension geometry, maximize ball joint lifespan and eliminate premature tyre wear caused by altered camber and caster angles. Factory control arms will function with this lift height but may position ball joints closer to their maximum articulation angle, accelerating wear. Adjustable aftermarket control arms allow precise camber correction and provide heavy-duty ball joints designed for increased suspension travel and off-road articulation. If you're planning serious off-road touring or already experiencing ball joint wear, budget for control arm upgrades at the time of lift kit installation for best long-term results.

Yes, a full four-wheel alignment is absolutely mandatory after installing any suspension lift kit including this Dobinsons system. The 30mm lift height will significantly alter your vehicle's camber, caster and toe angles beyond factory specifications, leading to uneven tyre wear, reduced handling precision and potential safety concerns if not corrected. The alignment must be performed by a qualified workshop with 4WD experience using manufacturer specifications adjusted for lifted ride height. Schedule your alignment immediately after installation and suspension settling, and allow 500km of driving for springs to fully settle before final alignment check if required by your installer.

Spring rate selection must be based exclusively on your vehicle's constant accessory load—the total weight of all permanently fitted equipment, not occasional loads like passengers or camping gear. Calculate your front constant load by adding weights of bull bar, winch, upgraded bumper, batteries and driving lights. Calculate rear constant load by adding canopy, drawers, toolboxes, dual spare tyres, water tanks and permanently mounted equipment. During checkout you'll select light, medium or heavy spring rates for front and rear based on these totals—load charts are provided during ordering. Selecting too heavy a spring rate for your actual constant load will result in harsh, uncomfortable ride quality and potential bushing damage, so be accurate and conservative in your selection.

With the 30mm lift provided by this kit, most Mitsubishi Triton models can accommodate tyres up to 32-33 inches in diameter (265/70R17 to 285/70R17 equivalent) without rubbing during normal on-road driving and moderate off-road articulation. Exact fitment depends on wheel offset, tyre width, tread pattern and how much suspension compression your driving style encounters. Aggressive off-road use with maximum articulation may require minor trimming of front guard liners or mudflap removal to prevent contact at full lock and compression. For the best balance of ground clearance, gearing and ride quality, consult with our team about optimal tyre sizing for your specific Triton variant and intended use before purchasing new tyres and wheels.

Dobinsons suspension components are backed by comprehensive manufacturer warranty coverage against defects in materials and workmanship, providing peace of mind for your investment in premium Australian-engineered suspension. Warranty terms vary by component type and installation conditions—shock absorbers and struts typically carry 12-month warranty coverage while springs may be covered differently. Full warranty details are provided with your kit and registration may be required. Warranty claims require proof of professional installation or documented DIY installation following Dobinsons specifications, and coverage may be affected by modifications, incorrect spring rate selection, or use beyond design parameters—our team can clarify specific warranty terms for your application.

Absolutely—this kit is engineered to deliver excellent on-road comfort and handling for daily commuting, highway touring and urban driving while simultaneously providing genuine off-road capability when needed. The twin-tube nitro gas shock absorbers feature refined valving that absorbs small road imperfections and maintains composure over expansion joints and potholes, while the matched spring rates (when correctly selected) preserve near-factory ride quality. Many Triton owners report improved highway stability, reduced body roll and better steering feedback compared to worn factory suspension. The 30mm lift height has minimal impact on center of gravity for highway driving, and the larger shock bodies reduce fade during long-distance touring with heavy loads—making this an ideal all-rounder for Australian touring conditions.

Proper Kit for Serious Remote Touring

By: Becky R on 17 June 2026
Been running this Dobinsons lift kit on my MQ for nearly 18 months now, including some pretty rough tracks through the Simpson and Cape York. The ride quality is genuinely impressive - soaks up corrugations way better than the stock setup while still being controlled when loaded up with water and recovery gear. Fitment was spot-on with all the hardware included, and the 30mm lift gives just enough clearance without going overboard.

Perfect Lift for Weekend Camping Adventures

By: Marcus N on 16 June 2026
Fitted this Dobinsons lift kit to our MQ Triton a few months back and it's been brilliant for our monthly camping trips down the coast and out to the high country. The 30mm lift gives us plenty of clearance for beach tracks and forest trails without making it too tall for the kids to climb in. Ride quality is actually better than stock, even when we're loaded up with the camper trailer and all the gear. Well worth the money and the install was straightforward with all the hardware included.

Perfect Lift for Our Touring Setup

By: Kate B on 10 June 2026
Had this Dobinsons 30mm lift kit fitted to our MQ Triton before our last trip down to Wilsons Prom and the difference is night and day. The ride quality is surprisingly comfortable even with the camper trailer loaded up, and we've got heaps more clearance for beach tracks now. Installation was straightforward according to our mechanic, and the gas struts have handled corrugations way better than the old setup.
