The Dobinsons Nitro Gas 2" Lift Kit suits the Toyota Land Cruiser 78 Series Troop Carrier and 79 Series Ute (1999-ON) and delivers a 2" lift front and rear using nitrogen-charged twin-tube shocks, raised front coil springs and heavy-duty rear leaf springs. The extra height clears larger tyres and lifts approach angles for touring or station work, while the twin-tube design keeps the ride settled on-road. The 79 Series locates its solid front axle with radius arms and a panhard rod rather than IFS control arms, and at 2" of lift most vehicles run the kit as supplied, with offset radius arm caster bushes and an adjustable panhard rod available if steering feel changes. In stock in Australia with a Dobinsons warranty and fitment support from our team.

Choose your front and rear spring rate based on what stays fitted to the vehicle day to day, not just peak load. A steel bullbar, winch and second battery add constant weight to the front, while a tray, canopy, water tank, tool boxes or a caravan tow ball load all add constant weight to the rear. Tell our team what accessories you run and we can confirm whether the standard-rate or a heavier-rate spring in this kit suits your setup.
This kit is best fitted by an experienced 4WD suspension installer or a competent DIY mechanic with a workshop press and spring compressors on hand. A wheel alignment is mandatory once the kit is fitted, as ride height and castor angle change with the 2" lift. Allow a 500km bed-in period for the springs and Nitro Gas shocks to settle into their working range before fine-tuning tyre pressures for the new ride height. The 79 Series locates its solid front axle with radius arms and a panhard rod rather than IFS control arms, and at 2" of lift most vehicles run the kit as supplied, with offset radius arm caster bushes and an adjustable panhard rod available if steering feel changes.
Dobinsons has been engineering 4WD suspension in Australia for decades, developing coil and leaf springs and shock tunes specifically for local vehicles and conditions rather than adapting overseas parts. Each Nitro Gas Lift Kit is backed by a manufacturer warranty and is a common fitment on 70 Series Land Cruisers used by tradespeople, station hands and grey nomads alike. You can view the full Dobinsons range for shocks, springs and matching components.
This kit suits 78/79 Series owners running a tray, canopy or Troop Carrier fit-out for work, as well as tourers fitting a bullbar, winch and camping gear for extended trips. If you're carrying a constant heavy rear load such as a caravan tow ball weight or a loaded canopy, also look at our airbag suspension options to add load-levelling support on top of this kit.

Yes - this kit fits the Toyota LandCruiser 79 Series from 1999 onward: Single Cab models with the 4.2L 1HZ diesel (1999-ON) or 4.5L 1VD-FTV V8 turbo diesel (2007-ON), and Dual Cab models (2012-ON, V8). It also suits the 78 Series Troop Carrier (1999-ON) across the 4.2L 1HZ diesel, 4.5L 1FZ-FE petrol and 4.5L V8 1VD-FTV diesel variants. Confirm your build date and accessory load with our team, or check compatibility through our parts finder before ordering.
This kit provides a 2" lift front and rear over standard ride height. The lift comes from raised front coil springs and heavy-duty rear leaf springs, matched to Dobinsons Nitro Gas twin-tube shocks with the correct extended travel. Final ride height can vary slightly depending on the spring rate chosen and the constant accessory load carried on your vehicle.
Please note that all assembled struts are dispatched at a height based on our experience and the manufacturer’s specifications for the advertised lift. Coil springs and leaf springs are also manufactured according to the advertised height and constant-load rating. Actual vehicle height may vary depending on the vehicle and the weight of fitted accessories. Further adjustment may therefore be required after installation. The installer may use coil spacers or adjust the struts at their discretion to achieve the desired height. We are not responsible for vehicle-specific height variations or any additional adjustments required after installation.
The kit includes 2 x Dobinsons Nitro Gas front shocks, 2 x Nitro Gas rear shocks, 2 x 2" raised front coil springs and 2 x 2" raised rear leaf springs. It also comes with U-bolt kits, greasable shackle bushes for the rear leaf pack, mounting hardware and Dobinsons fitting instructions. Caster correction components (offset radius arm bushes or adjustable radius arms), an adjustable front panhard rod, extended brake lines and a steering damper are not included and are sold separately.
Yes, the rear leaf springs in this kit can be matched to your typical constant tow ball load so the rear doesn't sag when hitched up. For heavier or variable towing loads, such as swapping between an empty trailer and a loaded caravan, our airbag suspension can be added on top of this kit for adjustable load levelling. Talk to our team about your typical tow ball weight before ordering.
The 79 Series has a solid front axle on coil springs, located by radius arms and a panhard rod, so there are no upper or lower control arms to upgrade like an IFS vehicle. At 2" of lift the caster change is mild and most owners run the kit as supplied. If the steering feels light or the vehicle wanders after fitting, offset radius arm caster bushes restore steering feel and an adjustable front panhard rod re-centres the axle under the vehicle. Our team can advise if your build needs either.
Yes, a wheel alignment is mandatory after installing this kit. Ride height, castor and toe all change once the vehicle sits at the new 2" lift height, and running it unaligned will cause uneven tyre wear. Have the alignment done once the springs have settled, ideally after the 500km bed-in period.
Yes, front and rear spring rates in Dobinsons kits can be selected to suit your constant accessory load. Front-end weight from a bullbar, winch or second battery, and rear weight from a tray, canopy, water tank or tow ball load, all affect which rate keeps the vehicle sitting level. Tell our team what's permanently fitted to your Land Cruiser and we'll confirm the right combination.
A 2" lift on the 78/79 Series typically opens up clearance for larger tyres than what fits under a standard vehicle, though the exact size depends on your wheel offset, tray or tub fitment and whether any guard trimming is done. We recommend confirming your target tyre size and wheel offset with our team before ordering so we can advise on clearance.
This kit is backed by a Dobinsons manufacturer warranty covering the Nitro Gas shocks and springs against manufacturing defects. Exact warranty terms are confirmed at the time of purchase and can be checked with our team or on the Dobinsons brand page. Keep your proof of purchase and have the kit fitted correctly to keep the warranty valid.
Yes, the Nitro Gas twin-tube shock design is tuned to keep the ride settled at highway speed as well as on rougher tracks, so it's suitable for daily use, work duties and touring. Many 78/79 Series owners run this kit as their everyday suspension while still getting the load capacity and clearance benefits off-road. Choosing the right spring rate for your typical accessory load helps keep the on-road ride comfortable.
