Spring Rate Selection Guide

Choose your constant load rating based on what's permanently fitted to the vehicle, not just what you carry occasionally. A Ranger running a steel bull bar, winch, dual battery tray and aluminium canopy sits at a different constant load than a bare-tray tradie ute, so the front and rear spring rate should reflect that fitted weight plus your typical payload. Common accessories that shift the selection include bull bars, winches, canopies, drawer systems, long-range fuel tanks, water tanks and caravan or trailer towball weight.

Installation & Setup

This is a bolt-in kit best fitted by an experienced 4WD suspension installer or a competent DIY mechanic with the correct spring compressors and torque specs on hand. Wheel alignment is mandatory after fitting to bring camber, caster and toe back within factory tolerance at the new ride height. Allow a 500km bedding-in period for the springs and shock seals to settle before final alignment checks. For correct geometry at 2" of lift, we recommend pairing this kit with upgraded control arms to restore factory CV and driveline angles.

Why Choose Toughdog?

Toughdog has supplied 4WD suspension to the Australian aftermarket for decades, with shocks and springs valved and tested locally rather than adapted from overseas passenger-car settings. Every kit is backed by a manufacturer warranty and supported by our team's fitment guidance specific to the Ranger PX1/PX2 chassis. Tradespeople, tourers and caravan owners across Australia run Toughdog kits for daily-driven utes that also need to carry real load — view the full Toughdog range to compare it against other Ranger-specific options.

Who Is This For?

This kit suits tradespeople running a canopy and tool storage, tourers fitting a rooftop tent, drawers and long-range fuel, and owners towing a caravan or box trailer on a regular basis. If your load varies significantly trip to trip, our airbag suspension range can be added to the rear leaf springs for adjustable load support on top of the fixed spring rate.

This Toughdog Ford Ranger PX1/PX2 lift kit is in stock in Australia for fast dispatch, with our team available to confirm spring rate and fitment before you order. Browse our full lift kit range to compare options for your Ranger.

FAQs

Yes, this Toughdog kit is built specifically for the Ford Ranger PX1 (2011-2015) and PX2 (2015-2018), covering both the 2.2L and 3.2L diesel variants. The front struts and rear leaf springs are matched to the PX1/PX2 chassis mounting points, not a generic Ranger-family fit. If you're on the later PX3 (2018-2022) or a different model year, check with our team before ordering as spring rates and mounts can differ. You can also confirm your exact build using our Ranger PX1/PX2 parts finder linked on this page.

This kit delivers a 2" lift at the front and a 2" lift at the rear as standard, using raised coil springs up front and reinforced leaf springs at the rear. The exact ride height achieved can vary slightly depending on the constant load rating selected and the vehicle's existing accessory weight. Front and rear lift can be tuned independently through spring rate selection if your Ranger carries uneven front/rear loads. Our team can advise the expected static height based on your bull bar, canopy or towbar setup.

Please note that all assembled struts are dispatched at a height based on our experience and the manufacturer’s specifications for the advertised lift. Coil springs and leaf springs are also manufactured according to the advertised height and constant-load rating. Actual vehicle height may vary depending on the vehicle and the weight of fitted accessories. Further adjustment may therefore be required after installation. The installer may use coil spacers or adjust the struts at their discretion to achieve the desired height. We are not responsible for vehicle-specific height variations or any additional adjustments required after installation.

The kit includes 2 x Toughdog Foam Cell front struts, 2 x raised front coil springs, 2 x reinforced rear leaf springs, and 2 x Foam Cell rear shock absorbers. It also comes with a U-bolt kit, greasable shackle bushes, mounting brackets and fitting instructions. Upper control arms are not included and are sold separately if required for your geometry correction. See the Kit Includes section on this page for the full itemised list.

Yes, the rear leaf springs are available in constant load ratings up to 500kg, specifically to support towball download and canopy or tray weight during towing. Selecting the correct spring rate for your typical towing setup keeps the rear from sagging under a loaded trailer or caravan. For variable towing loads, pairing the leaf springs with airbag suspension gives adjustable support on top of the fixed leaf rate. Our team can help match the rate to your GVM and towing figures.

At 2" of lift, factory lower control arms generally remain usable, but upgraded control arms are recommended to correct front CV joint and camber angles for smoother, quieter operation. Upgraded control arms also reduce strain on ball joints and bushes that occurs when the suspension geometry moves from factory settings. We stock control arms suited to the Ranger PX1/PX2 alongside this kit if you want to address geometry in the same job. Ask our fitment team if you're unsure whether your specific accessory load requires this upgrade.

Yes, a full wheel alignment is mandatory after installing this kit to bring camber, caster and toe back within factory tolerance at the new 2" ride height. Skipping alignment leads to uneven tyre wear and can affect steering feel and stability. We recommend an alignment check again after the first 500km once the springs and shocks have settled. This is standard practice for any lift kit installation, not specific to this product alone.

Yes, front coil springs are available in constant load ratings from 60kg to 300kg, and rear leaf springs from 100kg to 500kg, so the kit can be matched to your actual fitted accessories and payload. A bare-tray daily driver needs a lighter rate than a Ranger running a winch bar, canopy, drawers and long-range tanks. Tell our team what's permanently fitted to your vehicle and what you typically carry, and we'll recommend the closest matching rate. Getting this right is the main factor in ride quality and correct static height.

A 2" lift typically creates clearance for larger tyres than standard, though exact clearance depends on your wheel offset, width and any flares fitted. Most Ranger PX1/PX2 owners running this kit fit up to a 33-inch tyre without major rubbing, but wider or taller tyres may need trimming or flares. We recommend confirming your intended tyre size with our team before ordering so we can flag any clearance issues specific to your wheel and tyre combination. Final clearance should always be checked with the vehicle loaded and at full steering lock.

This Toughdog kit is backed by the manufacturer's warranty covering manufacturing defects in the struts, coil springs, leaf springs and shock absorbers. We handle warranty claims directly through our Australian-based team, so you're not dealing with an overseas supplier. Keep your invoice as proof of purchase and follow the recommended fitment and alignment process to keep the warranty valid. Contact us if you have any warranty questions before or after fitting.

Yes, the Foam Cell shocks and matched spring rates are tuned to keep ride comfort reasonable for daily driving while still handling load and off-road use. Selecting a spring rate close to your actual constant load, rather than the heaviest option available, keeps the ride from feeling stiff or unsettled around town. Many owners run this exact kit as their daily driver while also using the Ranger for towing and touring on weekends. If comfort is your main priority, tell our team your typical use case so we can suggest the best-balanced rate.
